\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThe southern District 3 for Lowndes County Commission is down to\r\nonly two candidates, one Democrat and one Republican, so there will\r\nbe no primary races and Tom Hochschild (D) and Mark Wisenbaker (R)\r\nwill face each other in the general election in November.\r\nRetiring candidate Don Thieme (D) throws his support behind Hochschild.\r\nDistrict 3 is mostly the south half of the county,\r\nbut it also wraps around Valdosta to incorporate Remerton and VSU.\r\nSee\r\n\r\ndetail map<\/a>\r\nor\r\nPDF of district 1,2,3<\/a>\r\nas found on\r\n\r\nlowndescounty.com<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nAnd Crawford Powell has withdrawn from the race for House District 174,\r\nso that leaves only two candidates there, too:\r\nJessie Smith (D) and John L. Corbett (R), with no\r\nprimary races, to face each other in November.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nDASHER, GA — The Lowndes GOP county commission primary field\r\nfor Commission District 3 was reclassified as\r\n“uncontested” Thursday morning when Thomas Sims, Jr.,\r\nwithdrew from the race, Sims Withdrawal Letter. This leaves Lowndes\r\nCounty Commission candidate Tally M. “Mark” Wisenbaker,\r\nJr., unopposed making him the de facto Republican nominee for the\r\nLowndes County Commission District 3 seat.\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n<\/a>\r\nCrawford Powell wrote on his\r\nfacebook page 26 March 2014<\/a>,\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\nI have decided at this time I will not be pursuing the seat for the\r\nGeorgia House of Representatives District 174; and I will be\r\nwithdrawing myself for consideration for the upcoming election.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nI am truly appreciative of all those that have supported and\r\nencouraged me for this position and my prior elected and appointed\r\npositions here in Lowndes County. It has been my honor to serve my\r\ncommunity; and I am so very proud to have had these opportunities.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nI look forward to pursuing several business opportunities that have\r\nbeen simmering on the back burner that now seem to be moving toward\r\nthe front. I think now it is best for me, and my family, to focus my\r\nenergies back into growing and expanding my business endeavors; and\r\nhopefully laying the groundwork for another generation to follow.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nI pray God’s very best for Lowndes County and the State of Georgia.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nPowell\r\n\r\nhad previously qualified for his incumbent seat in\r\nDistrict 3 for Lowndes County Commission, before qualifying\r\nfor Georgia House District 174<\/a>.\r\nWhen he qualified for the House, that unqualified him for the County Commission.\r\nQualifying is closed, so he can’t run for his incumbent seat now.\r\n

\r\nDon Thieme wrote on his facebook page 27 March 2014<\/a>,\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nI am supporting Tom Hochschild in his race for the District 3\r\nCommissioner seat. I have a busy life right now, but I do hope to\r\nrun for elected office again sometime in the future.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nI am withdrawing from the election for Lowndes County Commission,\r\nDistrict 3 Commissioner. This will mean that Tom Hochschild, my\r\ncolleague at Valdosta State University, will be running unopposed in\r\nthe primary and will be the Democratic Party nominee .\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nI have strong opinions about many of the issues which face Lowndes\r\nCounty and a new vision of the future for the county. I am\r\nconvinced, however, that Tom shares that vision and will articulate\r\nit well. While I was excited about my own candidacy, this is a very\r\nbusy time in my personal and professional life and I am not prepared\r\nto sacrifice the time required to serve the county fully.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nI fully expect that Tom Hochschild will win the coming election and\r\nreinvigorate the county commission. Lowndes County will need their\r\nhard work in coming years in order to preserve the blessings of our\r\nnatural environment here, provide more opportunities for our youth\r\nand protect us in our homes.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
