\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nWith only four voting Commissioners left, and two of those\r\nlame ducks, it should be an interesting set of Lowndes County\r\nCommission meetings this week.\r\nOn the agenda is adoption of infrastructure for\r\n\r\nthe Nelson Hill subdivision<\/a>;\r\nthe one with\r\nall the waivers by staff with no public hearings.\r\n\r\nPlus four rezonings, one for\r\n\r\na former County Commissioner<\/a>\r\nand another\r\n\r\nfor a community well for a development<\/a>.\r\nAnd the annual contract renewal for the\r\n\r\nMIDS on-call bus system<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nWhile the VDT headline yesterday said\r\n\r\nPolitical shuffle continues:\r\nCounty commissioner resigns to run for state Senate seat<\/a>,\r\nactually former Commissioner John Page didn’t resign:\r\nhe vacated his seat the moment he signed the qualifying papers\r\nto run for state Senator.\r\nThat’s why the Board of Elections has already\r\n\r\ncalled a special election<\/a> that\r\n

\r\nshall be held in Lowndes County on May 20, 2014, to fill a vacancy\r\nin the office of Lowndes County Commissioner representing District 5\r\nformerly held by John Page for a term to expire December 31, 2016.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nQualifying for District 5 will be from 9AM Wednesday to noon Friday 14 March 2014.\r\n

\r\nThe Board of Elections already before that \r\n\r\nreopened qualifying for District 3<\/a>\r\nbecause\r\n\r\nCrawford Powell qualified for Georgia House District 174<\/a>,\r\nthereby voiding his previous qualifying for his County Commission seat.\r\n

\r\nQualifying for District 3 will be from 9AM Monday through 5PM Tuesday 11 March 2014. So we’ll know before Tuesday’s Regular Session who’s running for District 3.\r\n

\r\nAnd Richard Raines\r\n\r\nalready said two months ago he wasn’t running again for District 2<\/a>.\r\nIt turns out he’s running for\r\n\r\nstate Senate<\/a>;\r\nthe same seat John Page just quit his Commission seat to run for.\r\nSo for GA Senate we have running Raines (R), Page (R),\r\nEllis Black (R) currently House 174, and Bikram Mohanty (D).\r\nBlack running for Senate opened his House seat; the one\r\nCrawford Powell decided to run for instead of County Commission.\r\nSee\r\n\r\nMusical chairs in local qualifying<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nWell, now maybe we can elect some County Commissioners who maybe don’t think\r\n\r\n“there’s nothing you can do”<\/a> about the pipeline, or about\r\nquite a few other things.\r\nSee \r\nFirst round of qualifying<\/a> for who’s currently running.\r\nWe’ll know more about Districts 3 and 5 by the end of the week.\r\nAnd Monday and Tuesday’s Commission meetings should be interesting.\r\n
