{"id":8066,"date":"2014-03-07T17:55:20","date_gmt":"2014-03-07T22:55:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?p=8066"},"modified":"2014-03-07T17:57:20","modified_gmt":"2014-03-07T22:57:20","slug":"musical-chairs-in-local-qualifying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2014\/03\/musical-chairs-in-local-qualifying.html","title":{"rendered":"Musical chairs in local qualifying"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nThree out of five voting County Commissioners are not running again,<br \/>\nand one has already vacated his seat,<br \/>\nplus you have to have a playing card to keep track of who&#8217;s<br \/>\nrunning for the state Senate and House.<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Musical_chairs\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/3\/35\/OCP_Musical_Chairs.jpg\/250px-OCP_Musical_Chairs.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nWe already knew<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2014\/03\/ga-senator-tim-golden-not-running.html\"><br \/>\nState Senator Tim Golden was not running again<\/a>,<br \/>\nand now we know who&#8217;s running for that seat:<br \/>\nRichard Raines (R),<br \/>\nwho had said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2014\/01\/district-2-is-open-seat-for-lowndes-county-commission-election.html\"><br \/>\ntwo months ago he was not running again<\/a> for<br \/>\nCounty Commission District 2,<br \/>\nEllis Black (R) currently House 174, Bikram Mohanty (D) who ran last time and came close,<br \/>\nand John Page (R), who thus vacated County Commission District 5.<\/p>\n<p>\nBecause Ellis Black is running for Senate, and even though he<br \/>\nqualifed for his House District 174 seat Monday,<br \/>\nwhen he qualified for Senate Wednesday, he left his House seat open.<br \/>\nRunning for District 174 are Crawford Powell (R), currently<br \/>\nCounty Commissioner for District 3,<br \/>\nJessie Smith (D), and John L. Corbett (R).<\/p>\n<p>\nThe incumbents qualifed for the other House seats,<br \/>\neach with no challenger.<\/p>\n<p>\nAs for the three (3) County Commission seats now open,<br \/>\nhere, read<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndesdems.org\/2014\/03\/07\/first-round-of-qualifying\/\"><br \/>\nGretchen&#8217;s explanation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd remember, more changes can still happen, because<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndesdems.org\/2014\/03\/07\/notice-of-reopened-qualifying-period-for-lowndes-county-commission-district-3\/\"><br \/>\nqualifying has reopened for County Commission District 3<\/a>,<br \/>\nand will have to reopen for District 5.<\/p>\n<p>\n -jsq<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three out of five voting County Commissioners are not running again, and one has already vacated his seat, plus you have to have a playing card to keep track of who&#8217;s running for the state Senate and House.
