So, I\r\ndon&#8217;t understand why they can&#8217;t share the profits,&#8221; continued\r\nRodgers&#8230;.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nOne concerned landowner, Rick Hastings, questioned whether any\r\ninformation that the third party collected and presented <!--more-->to Sabal\r\nTrail would be truthful and unbiased.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.walb.com\/story\/24886937\/sabal-trail-holds-meeting-in-valdosta\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:270px\" src=\"http:\/\/walb.images.worldnow.com\/images\/24886937_BG4.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n&#8220;What truly, honestly, is there to keep a corporation paying a\r\nconsultant not to say exactly and do exactly what the corporation\r\npaying their bills wants them to say,&#8221; Hastings asked.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nAnother concerned landowner questioned whether the public&#8217;s comment\r\nwould actually affect whether the pipeline is ultimately built or\r\nnot.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&#8220;Do we really have a voice? Can we really stop y&#8217;all,&#8221; said the\r\nconcerned landowner.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<li>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdostadailytimes.com\/local\/x1783702687\/Sabal-Trail-meeting-gets-personal\/?state=taberU\">\r\nSabal Trail meeting gets personal<\/a> by Matthew Woody, VDT\r\n<blockquote style=\"font-size:100%\">\r\n<p>\r\nPotentially affected landowners Jerry and Elaine Mercer spoke before\r\nthe event. Mrs. Mercer said, &ldquo;To them (Sabal Trail) it&#8217;s a\r\nbusiness, but to us it&#8217;s personal. You can&#8217;t get more personal than\r\nland.&rdquo; Mr. Mercer said, &ldquo;My land will be gone once they\r\nput that pipe in because I can&#8217;t use it; our property values will\r\ndrop, and most of all I am worried about safety.&rdquo;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nKelley Clark mentioned safety concerns and liability issues. &#8220;If\r\nsomething happens, who are we going to sue?&rdquo; Clark asked. She\r\nalso brought up the health concerns about the fracking process.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nLandowner Janice Anderson said she and her mother own land that has\r\nbeen in their family for 75 to 100 years, and sometimes they\r\ncontract their land to farmers. She said that if the construction of\r\nthe pipeline affects the farmers&#8217; crop then the Andersons could be\r\nsued. Her mother said, &ldquo;It will run right by my house, and I\r\nhaven&#8217;t given permission for them to survey my land.&rdquo;\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.valdostadailytimes.com\/local\/x1783702687\/Sabal-Trail-meeting-gets-personal\/?state=taberU\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:300px\" src=\"http:\/\/d6673sr63mbv7.cloudfront.net\/archive\/x1783702671\/g25800000000000000071dcc8c13a2045124af9a9ccfe8d98b8e842b252.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nRonald Kicklighter posed a question about the intent of the excess\r\nnatural gas going to Florida. &ldquo;They can&#8217;t burn all of that\r\ngas; are they going to export it?&rdquo; Peconom answered, as of\r\nnow, FERC has not received any distribution requests from Florida\r\nGas and Light.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSheila Haner encouraged land owners to use their voice. Danielle\r\nJordan mentioned the numerous fines being paid, and said that the\r\npipeline will negatively affect the environment, devastating\r\nvaluable land and natural resources. Carol Singletary, a landowner,\r\nsaid she has proposed several alternative routes to FERC.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nDr. Michael Noll was the final citizen to speak at the scoping\r\nmeeting, and he requested that FERC pursue renewable energy\r\nalternatives because the U.S. will eventually run out of its natural\r\ngas reserves. &ldquo;We are doing this to ourselves, and it&#8217;s not\r\nAmerican. We can do better. Not one of them spoke&#8230;.\r\n<p>\r\nThe people represented themselves, with many cogent arguments, ranging\r\nfrom specific route details to the big questions FERC wasn\u2019t taking\r\nseriously to the huge Halliburton loophole in federal water quality\r\nprotection that permits the fracking that this pipeline is intended to\r\nmarket. The audience clapped loudly after almost every speaker. Except\r\nwhen FERC or the contractor spoke.
