\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nAt FERC’s Scoping Meeting for Spectra’s proposed Sabal Trail methane pipeline,\r\nabout 100 people, not counting FERC or Spectra. Lots of good\r\nquestions. Not many answers. John Peconom of FERC\r\nsaid afterwards the comments were\r\nmostly about the big picture.\r\nExcept questions from local government officials: there were none.\r\nVideo to come.\r\n

\r\nWALB was there for a\r\nlong time, so they’ll probably cover it (they did<\/a>). Matthew Woody of the VDT had\r\nheaps of material and went off to file by 10PM (here’s his story<\/a>).\r\n

\r\nThree Lowndes County Commissioners were there:\r\nChairman Bill Slaughter, Joyce Evans, and Crawford Powell,\r\nand County Engineer Mike Fletcher and Utilities Director Mike Allen.\r\nNot one of them spoke.\r\n

\r\nIn\r\n\r\nGilchrist County, Florida<\/a>, all five County Commissioners,\r\nplus the County Administrator and the County Attorney, questioned the pipeline.\r\nIn Dougherty County, Georgia, Commissioner Gloria Gaines was vociferously against<\/a>.\r\nSo on a scale of Gilchrist to Dougherty, Lowndes is a minus one.\r\nMaybe if Lowndes Commissioners spent as much time actually trying\r\nto represent the people as they did \r\nclaiming there’s nothing they could do<\/a>,\r\nthey might get something done.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n

\r\nThe people represented themselves, with many cogent arguments,\r\nranging from specific route details to the big questions FERC\r\nwasn’t taking seriously to the huge Halliburton loophole in federal water\r\nquality protection that permits the fracking that this pipeline\r\nis intended to market.\r\nThe audience clapped loudly after almost every speaker.\r\nExcept when FERC or the contractor spoke.\r\nThen nobody clapped.\r\nVideo of the entire meeting will be up today or tomorrow.\r\n
