Read more at NoKeystone.org.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2013\/11\/25\/georgia-pipeline-safety-record-worse-than-in-florida\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:233px\" src=\"http:\/\/media.graytvinc.com\/images\/466*350\/thomson-explosion-2.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nThis time-lapse video shows pipeline incidents from 1986 to 2013,\r\nrelying on publicly available data from the federal Pipeline and\r\nHazardous Materials Safety Administration. Only incidents classified\r\nas &#8220;significant&#8221; by the agency are shown in the video. &#8220;Significant&#8221;\r\nincidents include those in which someone was hospitalized or killed,\r\ndamages amounted to more than $50,000, more than 5 barrels of highly\r\nvolatile substances or 50 barrels of other liquid were released, or\r\nwhere the liquid exploded or burned.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nAccording to the data, since 1986 there have been nearly 8,000\r\nincidents (nearly 300 per year on average), resulting in more than\r\n500 deaths (red dots on the video), more than 2,300 injuries (yellow\r\ndots on the video), and nearly $7 billion in damage. Since 1986\r\npipeline accidents have spilled an average of 76,000 barrels per\r\nyear or more than 3 million gallons. This is equivalent to 200\r\nbarrels every day.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biologicaldiversity.org\/campaigns\/americas_dangerous_pipelines\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:200px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.biologicaldiversity.org\/campaigns\/americas_dangerous_pipelines\/images\/incidents_by_primary_cause_without_numbers_600.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nMore detail in\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biologicaldiversity.org\/campaigns\/americas_dangerous_pipelines\/\">\r\nAnalysis by Richard Stover, Ph.D., and the Center for Biological Diversity<\/a>,\r\nincluding that natural gas second only to oil for pipeline spills.\r\nAnd the leading causes of incidents are:\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\n\r\nexcavation damage,\r\nas in\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2013\/11\/25\/georgia-pipeline-safety-record-worse-than-in-florida\/\">\r\nthe incident near Thomson, GA in 2010 that killed a man<\/a>\r\nor\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2013\/11\/14\/gas-pipeline-explosion-evacuates-texas-town\/\">\r\nthe fire at a 10-inch pipeline that evacuated all 700 people from Milford, Texas 14 November 2014<\/a>,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/hazards\/other-hazards\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:317px\" src=\"http:\/\/assets.nydailynews.com\/polopoly_fs\/1.1517017.1384456194!\/img\/httpImage\/image.jpg_gen\/derivatives\/landscape_635\/usa-gas-line-explosion-milford-texas.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n\r\nand probably the\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/natural-gas-pipeline-exploded-in-oklahoma-seen-in-two-other-states.html\">\r\nthe 30-inch pipeline that exploded in Harper County, Oklahoma in October 2013\r\nand could be seen from Kansas and Texas<\/a>.\r\nThe cause of that last one was undetermined at the time,\r\nand a few days later\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/primis.phmsa.dot.gov\/comm\/reports\/enforce\/documents\/420131016H\/420131016H_Corrective%20Action%20Order_10112013_text.pdf\">PHMSA didn&#8217;t know, either<\/a>.\r\nIf it spontaneously blew up, that&#8217;s even worse.\r\n<li>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/hazards\/spectra-safety-violations\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/www.naturalgaswatch.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/corroded-pipeline1.png\"><\/a>\r\nand corrosion,\r\nsuch as\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/spectra-pipeline-property-damage-and-safety-record.html\">\r\nthe five items on that PHMSA Final Order to Spectra Energy in December 2012<\/a>\r\nand the numerous other incidents PHMSA lists for Spectra,\r\nwhich according to one of its own employees,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/09\/spectra-never-bothered-to-check-pipeline-for-corrosion-spectra-employee.html\">\r\nnever bothered to check a pipeline for corrosion<\/a>.\r\nAnd beyond pipelines there&#8217;s that\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2014\/01\/fossil-fuels-are-a-disaster-literally-in-wv.html\">\r\nchemical spill in West Virginia that put 300,000 people out of drinking water<\/a>\r\nand\r\nspeaking of corrosion,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/12\/epa-ga-epd-and-southeast-health-in-waycross-about-seven-out-superfund-epa-2013-11-14.html\">\r\nthere&#8217;s the Waycross Superfund site that&#8217;s partly been imported into our watersheds<\/a>.\r\nDon&#8217;t we have enough pollution already?\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>\r\nHere&#8217;s (an incomplete) Wikipedia\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_pipeline_accidents_in_the_United_States_in_the_21st_century\">\r\nlist of pipeline accidents in the United States in the 21st century<\/a>.\r\nMarch 2013 alone had\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/04\/13-oil-spills-in-30-days.html\">13 major oil spills in 30 days worldwide<\/a>.\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/01\/20\/five-compressor-stations-proposed-by-sabal-trail-and-spectra\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/alternatives-044-150x150.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nYou can look up specific pipeline incidents\r\n<a Related&#8221;\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/projects.propublica.org\/pipelines\/incidents\/271409\">\r\nnear Albany Georgia 29 May 2014<\/a> that caused $209,447 in property damage.\r\nAlbany, where\r\nSpectra offshoot\r\nSabal Trail Transmission\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/spectrabusters.org\/2014\/01\/20\/five-compressor-stations-proposed-by-sabal-trail-and-spectra\/\">\r\nwants to put a compressor station<\/a>.\r\nLike the two compressor stations\r\n<a href=\"spectrabusters.org\/2014\/01\/20\/the-most-terrifying-experience-spectra-blows-another-compressor-station\/\">where Spectra
