\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nApplications are being accepted now for\r\ngrants from the\r\n\r\nUSDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP)<\/a>.\r\nAccording to\r\n\r\nBryan Zulko<\/a>, the amount of funds available\r\nis still being worked out, and an announcement is expected in\r\nFebruary.\r\nMeanwhile, the number of applications is low this year.\r\nTo me that means that if you want to apply, you’ve\r\ngot a better chance than usual of getting in.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nSection 9007 of the 2008 Farm Bill established a grant, loan, and\r\nloan guarantee program to assist eligible farmers, ranchers, and\r\nrural small businesses in purchasing renewable energy systems and\r\nfor making energy efficiency improvements.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nEligible projects include those that derive energy from a wind,\r\nsolar, biomass, micro-hydro or geothermal source, or hydrogen\r\nderived from biomass or water using wind, solar, or geothermal\r\nenergy sources. Awards will be made on a competitive basis for the\r\npurchase of renewable energy systems and to make energy\r\nimprovements.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nWe applied in 2012 for\r\n\r\nOkra Paradise Farms<\/a>\r\nand got a REAP grant, which greatly helped pay for\r\n\r\n60 more solar panels on our farm workshop roof<\/a>.\r\n
