\r\nHow about a profit-sharing venture the pipeline partners and\r\nthe County?\r\nA VSU professor asked that at the\r\n\r\n10 December 2013 Regular Session of the Lowndes County Commission<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nDr. Hochschild listed a few benefits Spectra rep. Brian Fahrenthold\r\n\r\nhad claimed the previous morning<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nConsidering the vast profits Florida Power and Light and Sabal Trail\r\nstand to make from the use of our land,\r\nI know they can do a lot better than hotel stays, Big Macs, and temporary jobs.\r\nMr. Fahrenthold claimed the pipeline would be economically beneficial\r\nbecause it will supposedly bring in $460 million in property taxes\r\nover the next sixty years.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nFirst I’d like to know if an independent agency came up with that projection,\r\nor if those are Florida Power and Light’s and Sabal Trail’s numbers.\r\nThe problem with estimated projections of course,\r\nis that they are almost guaranteed to be incorrect.\r\nI would like to request that Sabal Trail provide the\r\ndata and metrics used for that calculation so that the Lowndes County\r\nBoard of Commissioners and Lowndes residents can conduct an independent\r\nanalysis.\r\n

\r\nIf it is indeed the case that Florida Power and Light is going to pay\r\n$460 million in property taxes over the next sixty years,\r\nhow many tens or hundreds of millions of dollars do they stand to profit\r\nover those same sixty years?\r\nI’d like to ask them to disclose their projected profits from the\r\npipeline for the next sixty years.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nAt this very moment while we’re having this meeting,\r\nwe’re the third poorest Metropolitan Statistical Area in this country.\r\nThe third poorest out of 318\r\nMetropolitan Statistical Areas in the country.\r\nI think Florida Power and Light and Sabal Trail are in a great position\r\nto help us out.\r\nWe have the supply; they have the demand.\r\nThey want to make enormous profits by using our land;\r\nwe want to climb out of poverty.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nI want to propose a profit-sharing venture\r\nbetween Florida Power and Light, Sabal Trail, and Lowndes County,\r\nwhere a percentage of their corporate profits\r\nare given to the neediest families in Lowndes County.\r\nThis profit-sharing venture would fit nicely into\r\n\r\nFlorida Power and Light and Sabal Trail’s core values<\/a>\r\nof ethical behavior and community enhancement.\r\n
