\r\nHigh-tech location quotients (LQs), which measure the industry’s\r\nconcentration in a particular metro relative to the national\r\naverage, are included to gauge an area’s participation in the\r\nknowledge-based economy. We also measure the number of specific\r\nhigh-tech fields (out of a possible 22) whose concentrations in an\r\nMSA are higher than the national average.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

It does\r\nnot incorporate input measures (business costs, cost-of-living\r\ncomponents, and quality-of-life conditions such as commute times or\r\ncrime rates). These measures, although important, are prone to wide\r\nvariations and can be highly subjective.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n
