\r\nWhy is Lowndes County leaving the City of\r\n\r\nValdosta<\/a> to subsidize the county’s\r\nfailed\r\n“exclusive franchise”?\r\nAnd is ADS’ failure to recycle recyling a breach of its contract with the county?\r\n

\r\n<\/a>\r\nAdam Floyd wrote on the front page of the VDT today,\r\n\r\nAdvanced Disposal appeals Deep South decision<\/a>,\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nRequests made to Advanced Disposal Service’s corporate office and\r\nRobert Norman, the lawyer who filed the appeal, to learn the\r\ncompany’s reasoning behind the appeal were not returned by press\r\ntime.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n<\/a>\r\nMeanwhile, the City of Valdosta’s recycling center has denied\r\nAdvanced Disposal further access to its facilities, citing concerns\r\nabout volume.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\nJohn Whitehead III, deputy city manager for operations<\/a>, said that\r\nthe center could not process the company’s deliveries fast enough,\r\nand material was beginning to pile up. The suspension is temporary,\r\nWhitehead said, and was done to ensure that the city could process\r\nits recycling which increases during the holidays.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n<\/a>\r\n“We had been taking our recycling to the City of Valdosta, and\r\nMonday they cut us off without any notice,” said Greg Walk,\r\nlocal general manager for Advanced Disposal. “We’ve\r\nconstructed a bunker at the landfill, and the material that is being\r\ncollected in that bunker will be taken to a processing plant in\r\nMilledgeville.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe company had to dispose of recycled materials collected Monday\r\nand Tuesday but continued recycling service Wednesday.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n“It was the last thing we wanted to do to our recyclables, but\r\nwe responded as quickly as possible,” said Walk.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nDoes that mean the city of Valdosta sent the recycling to the landfill?\r\nAnd is that a violation of the county’s contract with ADS?\r\n
