Why:<\/b> Spectra Energy\r\nproposes a hundred-foot-wide gash through our lands for\r\ntheir huge 36 inch Sabal Trail gas pipeline from\r\nAlabama through Georgia to feed Florida Power and Light\r\n(FPL) for no benefit to local citizens. A one-time payment\r\nis nowhere near adequate for permanent destruction and\r\nhazards when FPL and Spectra would continue to profit\r\nforever.<\/p>\r\n

Property values:<\/b> A\r\npipeline through your property isn’t going to increase\r\nits value, and being a pipeline corridor isn’t going\r\nto attract businesses.<\/p>\r\n

Hazards:<\/b> The\r\nEnvironmental Protection Agency (EPA) fined Spectra a record\r\n$15 million for leaking PCBs at 89 sites along another\r\npipeline. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety\r\nAdministration (PHMSA) fined Spectra $134,500 in December\r\n2012 for five violations of federal regulations and\r\nSpectra’s own company procedures, involving not\r\nmonitoring pipelines and letting them corrode and leak.<\/p>\r\n

This 36 inch pipeline would\r\nbe bigger than the 30 inch gas pipeline that blew up in\r\nOklahoma a few weeks ago, visible from Kansas and Texas, and\r\nfar bigger than the 10 inch one that blew up in Texas\r\nlast week.. It is nowhere near safe enough to run anywhere\r\nnear schools, churches, people’s houses, or\r\nwildlife.<\/p>\r\n

Fracking:<\/b> The gas comes\r\nfrom fracking in the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania and the\r\nBarnett Shale in Texas, destroying whole watersheds and\r\npoisoning farmlands and drinking water.<\/p>\r\n

Instead:<\/b> Solar power is\r\ncheaper and brings jobs and energy right here where we need\r\nthem.<\/p>\r\n

\r\nWe are a coalition of landowners and others opposed to the\r\nSabal Trail Transmission gas pipeline through Alabama,\r\nGeorgia, and Florida.<\/p>\r\n
