{"id":69,"date":"2013-02-27T11:57:37","date_gmt":"2013-02-27T16:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/02\/make-sure-that-the-people-in-my-age-group-know-who-theyre-voting-for-brett-huntley-lcc-2013-02-26.html"},"modified":"2013-02-27T11:57:37","modified_gmt":"2013-02-27T16:57:37","slug":"make-sure-that-the-people-in-my-age-group-know-who-theyre-voting-for-brett-huntley-lcc-2013-02-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/02\/make-sure-that-the-people-in-my-age-group-know-who-theyre-voting-for-brett-huntley-lcc-2013-02-26.html","title":{"rendered":"Make sure people in my age group know who they&#8217;re voting for &mdash;Brett Huntley @ LCC 2013-02-26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZLQSGqR1cEI\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017ee8c45230970d\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017ee8c45230970d-pi.jpg\" \/><\/a>\nBrett Huntley responded\nto the Commission&#39;s mysterious ruling against the public\nat the\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/02\/videos-commission-voted-against-the-people-lcc-2013-02-26.html#Hotchkiss\">\n26 Febuary 2013 Lowndes County Commission meeting,<\/a>\nto close the only public access to the Alapaha River in Lowndes County.\nNeither County Manager Joe Pritchard nor County Engineer Mike Fletcher\nwere paying any attention.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nI would like to publicly say that I am shocked with the decision.\nI feel the decision was in favor of a sole person, and not in the\ninterests of the community and the citizens.\nWe tried to speak and explain our side of the story.\nAnd the county road has not ceased to be used.\nIt&#39;s been being used in our county for over 100 years.\nI feel your guys just made a decision that will have an impact\non our culture and heritage in the community that is not good.\nIt&#39;s a bad decision, I feel.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nI kind of feel hurt.\nI feel it&#39;s a personal thing for our community.\nThat whole road abandonment idea stems from one sole person\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\nthat seemed to have a problem with some in the community.\nAnd I feel that he was obviously listened to a lot more than the citizens were.\nAnd I take that personally and feel that was a poor decision,\nand I hope there is some way that we might be able to turn this around.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAs the 2030 plan is in the county&#39;s interests, there&#39;s also\neasements and stuff, a lot of technical things involved in this.\nAnd going into a new area will be damaging the environment even more.\nWhereas this place has been there for over 100 years,\nit would be the easiest and less expensive way for the county\nto build something.\nYou guys are going to spend more money to do it somewhere else\nwhereas you&#39;ve got a place that&#39;s been there with heritage and history\nfor over a hundred years.\nThat would have been the ideal, in the previous place to do it.\nNext to a big ugly bridge on US 84 with cars driving by and semi-trucks,\nit&#39;s not going to be the same.\nThat&#39;s something that has been taken away from the citizens of our community.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd I personally feel that this whole experience has motivated me to\nbe involved in more decisions that our county makes.
