The banal argument that transitioning\r\nto a clean energy economy will cost us jobs is simply false. Solar\r\nis growing more than 10 times faster than the American economy.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSolar already employs more than coal, and that gap is widening. In\r\n2012, solar added 14,000 new jobs, up 36 percent from 2010 and the\r\nindustry will add another 20,000 jobs this year. The fossil fuels\r\nindustry cut 4,000 jobs last year. So when it comes to employing\r\nAmericans, solar is winning.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThat 119,000 jobs in the solar industry is also more than\r\nthe 106,400 &#8220;production and nonsupervisory employees&#8221; in the oil and\r\ngas extraction industry, and gaining rapidly <!--more-->on the\r\ntotal of 197,500 for that industry in September 2013, according to\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\/iag\/tgs\/iag211.htm\">\r\nOil and Gas Extraction: NAICS 211&#8243;<\/a>,\r\nU.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.\r\n<p>\r\nThis is why solar is gaining jobs so fast,\r\nprices continuing to drop year on year (\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/12\/what-is-moores-law-for-solar-power.html\">\r\nMoore&#8217;s Law for solar<\/a>)\r\nproduces increasing solar deployment year after year like compound interest:\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2013\/06\/11\/us-solar-energy-record-high\/\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none;width:612px\" src=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/US-PV-Installations-by-Market-Segmet-1024x676.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/08\/solar-power-will-win-like-the-internet-did.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8226\/8421700685_a46c93cf27_n.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nThe people of Georgia\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/citizens-for-solar-power-ga-leg-not-so-much.html\">\r\nmostly already get this<\/a>, despite the mighty megaphone of the\r\nfossil fuel industry continually trying to shout down the truth.\r\n<p>\r\n\r\nSolar power\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/08\/solar-power-will-win-like-the-internet-did.html\">\r\nis going to win like the Internet did<\/a>.\r\n<p>\r\n\r\nT. Boone Pickens with his natural gas export investments\r\nin about six years could well look like\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/09\/how-fast-industries-can-change-mobile-phones-and-solar-power.html\">\r\nSteve Ballmer after he ridiculed the iPhone in 2007<\/a>.\r\nThat&#8217;s Steve Ballmer <em>former<\/em> CEO of Microsoft, partly because,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/09\/how-fast-industries-can-change-mobile-phones-and-solar-power.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:160px\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.ytimg.com\/vi\/eywi0h_Y5_U\/mqdefault.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nas he said <a href=\"http:\/\/mobile.theverge.com\/2013\/9\/19\/4750086\/ballmer-almost-no-mobile-share-microsoft-opportunity\">19 September 2013<\/a>:\r\n<blockquote>\r\nMobile devices. We have almost no share.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nLet me quote Thomas Alva Edison yet again:\r\n<blockquote>\r\n\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/the-cloudy-day-doesnt-last-for-an-entire-month-john-s-quarterman.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5301\/5632134880_2f2363a7f2_m.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nWe are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house\r\nfor fuel when we should be using Nature&#8217;s inexhaustible sources of\r\nenergy &mdash; sun, wind and tide. &#8230; I&#8217;d put my money on the sun\r\nand solar energy. What a source of power!
