\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nWhy so secretive, planning board that recommends on\r\nissues that affect citizens all over Lowndes County?\r\nWhere is your agenda for your meeting at 5:30 PM today?\r\nSure, Gretchen only asked for it today, but why\r\ndoes LAKE have to wheedle it out of somebody?\r\nWhy don’t you or the county publish it so the\r\npublic can see?\r\nDo you, the affected public, agree with\r\nLowndes County Chairman Bill Slaughter that\r\n\r\ntransparency is not a problem<\/a>?\r\n

\r\n\r\nWe can guess the proposed Nottinghill subdivision will be back,\r\nsince it got tabled (again) at GLPC’s\r\n\r\nOctober meeting<\/a>.\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nAlso probably the\r\n\r\nattendance policy<\/a>, since last time the GLPC Chairman wasn’t there\r\nand only 6 of 11 Commissioners showed up.\r\nBut what else?\r\nAnd why should have to guess what public business a public board\r\nis taking up tonight?\r\nWhy do we have this Planning Commission if it doesn’t take its\r\nresponsibilities to the citizens of this county seriously enough\r\nto show up or to tell us what it’s doing?\r\n

\r\nLowndes County doesn’t even have today’s meeting\r\n\r\non its public calendar<\/a>.\r\nThe City of Valdosta\r\n\r\ndoes<\/a>;\r\nhere’s\r\n\r\nValdosta’s GLPC listing for today<\/a>:\r\n

Greater Lowndes Planning Commission<\/H2>\r\n

\r\nPurpose:<\/strong>\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe mission of the Greater Lowndes Planning Commission (GLPC) is to\r\nlook beyond short-term solutions in planning for the future of the\r\nGreater Lowndes community; to improve the public health, safety,\r\nconvenience and welfare; and to provide for the social, economic and\r\nphysical development of communities on a sound and orderly basis,\r\nwithin a governmental framework and economic environment which\r\nfosters constructive growth and efficient administration.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nMembers:<\/strong>\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe Planning Commission is a joint advisory board, comprised of ten\r\ncitizens of various backgrounds, appointed by the elected officials\r\nof each governing body. The City of Valdosta has four appointments;\r\nthe Lowndes County Board of Commissioners has three appointments;\r\nand the cities of Hahira, Lake Park, and Dasher each have one\r\nappointment. Members are appointed for five-year terms.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

            \r\nRegular meetings (Public Hearings) of the GLPC are held the last\r\nMonday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the South Health District\r\nOffice Conference Room at 325 W. Savannah Avenue.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

            \r\nWork Sessions are held the second to last Monday of each month at\r\n5:30 p.m. at the South Health District Office Conference Room at 325\r\nW. Savannah Avenue. These meetings are open to the public.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

            \r\nInterested in Serving:<\/strong>\r\n<\/p>\r\n

            \r\nAny City resident interested in serving on the GLPC should submit a\r\ncompleted application and ethics form to the City Clerk, located in\r\nthe City Manager and Mayor’s office in City Hall (216 E. Central\r\nAvenue). Residents residing in unincorporated Lowndes County or the\r\ncities of Hahira, Lake Park, or Dasher should contact their\r\nrespective governing authority.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
