\r\nA citizen brought up the sordid health and safety record Spectra Energy,\r\nat the\r\n\r\nLowndes County Commission Regular Session 2013-10-22<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nVideo.<\/a>\r\nHe thanked Commissioner Marshall for coming to the\r\nSpectra pipeline meeting at Wiregrass Tech 16 Oct 2013<\/a>,\r\nand said that meeting wasn’t very informative.\r\nHe asked Commissioners to put themselves in the landowner’s place.\r\n

\r\nAlso to consider that there’s nothing in Georgia that needs a 36″ gas\r\npipeline, which is actually going to to a power plant in Florida,\r\ncoming out of Alabama.\r\nHe wondered why it couldn’t run down highway rights of way instead.\r\n

\r\nHe remarked on catastrophic failures, and noted the pipline company,\r\nSpectra, had been fined\r\n\r\na record $15 million for PCB cleanup<\/a> along another pipeline.\r\n

\r\n\r\n“This company is awful,”<\/a><\/blockquote>\r\n

he said.\r\nHe noted\r\n\r\na gas explosion<\/a> of that size pipe could take out two football fields.\r\nHe wondered if the pipeline would go through the county’s closed landfill.\r\n

\r\nHe recommended they, as Commissioners or as individuals,\r\n\r\ncontact FERC<\/a>.\r\nHe asked for them to set up a meeting with Spectra.\r\nThey did later\r\n\r\nschedule Spectra to speak<\/a> at their 9 December 2013 Work Session.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
