environment, the China Daily newspaper reported\r\non Wednesday, citing a senior government official.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe plan, which has been approved by the State Council, is on top of\r\na 1.85 trillion yuan investment in the renewable energy sector,\r\nunderscoring the government&#8217;s concerns about addressing a key source\r\nof social discontent.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nChina has set a target of reducing its carbon emissions per unit of\r\nGDP by 40-45 percent by 2020 from the 2005 level, and raising\r\nnon-fossil energy consumption to 15 percent of its energy mix, Xie\r\nZhenhua, deputy director of the National Development and Reform\r\nCommission (NDRC), was quoted as saying.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThe article continues about tiered power pricing for energy
