This route barely touches the southwest corner\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.ytimg.com\/vi\/al2Ec8S3LHs\/default.jpg\">\r\nof Georgia (if at all). Why did Sabal change the route? I don&#8217;t\r\neither. The newspaper is dated October 24, 2013.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n-Ronald Kicklighter\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ocala.com\/article\/20131024\/ARTICLES\/131029793?p=all&#038;tc=pgall\">\r\nContracts for natural gas pipeline through Florida get initial OK<\/a>,\r\nby Morgan Watkins for Ocala StarBanner\r\npicked up a story first run in\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gainesville.com\/article\/20131024\/ARTICLES\/131029743\/1182?p=all&#038;tc=pgall\">\r\nthe Gainesville Sun<\/a>,\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nA $3.5 billion, 600-mile natural-gas pipeline system that will\r\nstretch from Alabama into Florida is still in the planning stages,\r\nbut homeowners near the Ichetucknee and Santa Fe rivers are\r\nconcerned because the routes being proposed might run through their\r\nneighborhoods.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gainesville.com\/article\/20131024\/ARTICLES\/131029743\/1182?Title=Contracts-for-natural-gas-pipeline-through-Florida-get-initial-OK\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gainesville.com\/apps\/pbcsi.dll\/bilde?Site=GS&#038;Date=20131024&#038;Category=ARTICLES&#038;ArtNo=131029743&#038;Ref=V1&#038;Profile=1182&#038;MaxW=728&#038;logo=\/images\/watermark.gif&#038;logoxpos=0&#038;logoypos=0\"><\/a>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nLandowners in Georgia don&#8217;t want it crossing their land or the\r\nFlint or Withlacoochee Rivers, either.\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nFlorida Power &#038; Light selected<!--more--> Sabal Trail Transmission to construct\r\na pipeline that will wind from southwest Alabama through Georgia to\r\na Central Florida hub, from which point another company will build a\r\npipeline that runs into Martin County. The pipeline system should be\r\noperational by May 2017, FPL spokeswoman Sarah Gatewood said.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/category\/pipeline-2\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/www.floridavoices.com\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/myturn\/photos\/Pam%20Rauch.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nFPL selected Sabal Trail Transmission and the second company,\r\nFlorida Southeast Connection, in late July, but it received the\r\nFlorida Public Service Commission&#8217;s approval of the prudence of its\r\nchosen contracts Thursday. Florida Southeast Connection is a\r\nsubsidiary of NextEra Energy, FPL&#8217;s parent company. Sabal isn&#8217;t a\r\nsubsidiary of NextEra, although NextEra did invest in Sabal&#8217;s\r\npipeline project, Gatewood said.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nHere&#8217;s\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/sabal-trail-pipeline-preliminary-filing-with-ferc-2.html\">\r\nFlorida Southeast Connections&#8217;s preliminary FERC filing (FP14-2)<\/a>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/sabal-trail-pipeline-preliminary-filing-with-ferc.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:100px\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5525\/10443153096_1792b36908_m.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nand here&#8217;s\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/sabal-trail-pipeline-preliminary-filing-with-ferc.html\">\r\nSabal Trail&#8217;s preliminary filing (FP14-1)<\/a>,\r\nwhich says all three shells (Sabal Trail, Transco, and FSC)\r\nexpect to get a common environmental rubberstamp with\r\na company called  Merjent ghost-writing their Spectral document.\r\n<p>\r\nThe Sabal Trail blueshirts told me that they had been\r\nholding two meetings a day, the others in Florida.\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/lowndes-vs-florida-pipeline.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3691\/10327348204_67a3f38e78_t.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nSabal recently completed a series of informational meetings with\r\nlandowners along its proposed pipeline corridor, Sabal spokeswoman\r\nAndrea Grover said. It will have another round of community meetings\r\nin December.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/schedule-of-open-houses-required-by-ferc-for-sabal-trail.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:100px\" src=\"http:\/\/citizensagainstlng.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/IM000015-225x300.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nHere&#8217;s\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/schedule-of-open-houses-required-by-ferc-for-sabal-trail.html\">\r\nthe list of December Open Houses required by FERC<\/a>\r\n(you can see how popular gas pipelines are elsewhere).\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThe company began conducting surveys along the corridor in\r\nSeptember. The survey work analyzes the route&#8217;s potential\r\nenvironmental impact among other issues.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe proposed route through North Florida was originally going to\r\nfollow an overhead power line in the Columbia County area and cross\r\nthe Ichetucknee River, Grover said. Now it will cross from Suwannee\r\nCounty into Gilchrist County by running underneath the bed of the\r\nSanta Fe River.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nIt will also run through about four miles of land in the southwest\r\ncorner of Alachua County.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSabal&#8217;s proposed route isn&#8217;t final and is still under review, Grover\r\nsaid. The company plans to submit a formal application to the\r\nFederal Energy Regulatory Commission for approval next year, which\r\nwill include its preferred route as well as alternatives.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/sabal-trail-pipeline-context-maps-spectra-energy-and-fpl.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:300px\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/loco\/pipeline\/2013-07-25--sabal-trail\/SCAN0476.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nOh, now we&#8217;re up to <em>plural<\/em> alternatives,\r\nwhich is different from\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/sabal-trail-pipeline-context-maps-spectra-energy-and-fpl.html\">\r\nwhat Andrea Grover told me in Moultrie<\/a>,\r\nwhich was that Sabal Trail would submit a preferred route and <em>one<\/em>\r\nalternative.\r\nNow we&#8217;re up to <em>three<\/em> routes (or maybe four),\r\none (or two) of which avoids Georgia entirely.\r\nMaybe we&#8217;re scaring them away from Georgia.\r\n<p>\r\nAnd what if people along <em>every<\/em> route object?\r\nWhat then, Sabal Trail?\r\nMaybe you should get into the solar business;\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/solar-and-wind-cheaper-than-fossil-fuels-more-evidence.html\">\r\nsolar has a future<\/a>.\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Andrea Grover of Sabal Trail Transmission has been telling Florida landowners about another proposed pipeline route that completely bypasses Georgia.
