(image via PSEG)\n<\/td><\/tr><\/table>\n<p>\nThis is something we&#8217;ve noted before, but it deserves mention now\nbecause the state &mdash; sometime in late February &mdash; hit the\n1 gigawatt mark in total installed solar electric capacity,\naccording to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.gov\/bpu\/pdf\/announcements\/2013\/20130319.pdf\">PDF<\/a>].\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nYes, that&#8217;s a picture of an elementary school with solar panels on its roof.\nWe can do that in Georgia, as\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/03\/videos-solar-dublin-high-school-groundbreaking-dhs-solar-2013-03-11.html\">\nDublin High School just demonstrated<\/a>\nand as\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2013\/03\/solar-dublin-high-school-groundbreaking-tomorrow.html\">\nwe could do right here on top of Lowndes High<\/a> or the new VHS.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/98706376@N00\/8597007467\/sizes\/m\/\" title=\"NJ 1 GW Solar\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"   src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8230\/8597007467_7d716453c0_n.jpg\" alt=\"NJ 1 GW Solar\"><\/a>\nPoor New Jersey did fall to #3 nationwide, behind California and Arizona,\nand\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=10151328599810172&#038;set=a.308263400171.146657.60532255171&#038;type=1\">\nNJ Sierra Club is complaining about that<\/a>,\nbut\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seia.org\/research-resources\/solar-industry-data\">\nGeorgia is #22 in 2012 annual installed PV capacity,<\/a>\nbehind tiny Delaware, Vermont, and Connecticut.\nGeorgia can continue to lag behind the pack and\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/07\/google-says-delaying-solar-will-cost-us-millions-of-jobs.html\">\nlose lots of benefits<\/a>,\nor it can get on with solar and lead the country in solar power,\nfor jobs, profit, and energy independence, and for clean air and water.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"While Georgia failed to reform its antique Territorial Electric Service Act and toyed with a solar monopoly, New Jersey, far to the north with far less sun, finished installing a gigawatt (1,000 megawatts) of solar power.
