\nWhile Georgia\n\nfailed to reform its antique Territorial Electric Service Act<\/a>\nand\n\ntoyed with a solar monopoly<\/a>,\n\n<\/a>\nNew Jersey, far to the north with far less sun,\nfinished installing a gigawatt (1,000 megawatts) of solar power.\nThe rest of the\n\nU.S. installed 3.3 MW total<\/a>, slightly higher\nthan projections of 3.2 MW, but Georgia lagged behind.\nWhen will the legislature and the Public Service Commission,\nand perhaps more importantly, Georgia Power and Southern Company,\nstop\n\nstop wasting our money on that three-legged nuclear regulatory-capture boondoggle\nat Plant Vogtle<\/a>\nand get on with solar in Georgia for jobs, for profit, and for clean air and water?\n<\/p>\n

\nThis is something we’ve noted before, but it deserves mention now\nbecause the state — sometime in late February — hit the\n1 gigawatt mark in total installed solar electric capacity,\naccording to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities [PDF<\/a>].\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nYes, that’s a picture of an elementary school with solar panels on its roof.\nWe can do that in Georgia, as\n\nDublin High School just demonstrated<\/a>\nand as\n\nwe could do right here on top of Lowndes High<\/a> or the new VHS.\n<\/p>\n

\n\n\"NJ<\/a>\nPoor New Jersey did fall to #3 nationwide, behind California and Arizona,\nand\n\nNJ Sierra Club is complaining about that<\/a>,\nbut\n\nGeorgia is #22 in 2012 annual installed PV capacity,<\/a>\nbehind tiny Delaware, Vermont, and Connecticut.\nGeorgia can continue to lag behind the pack and\n\nlose lots of benefits<\/a>,\nor it can get on with solar and lead the country in solar power,\nfor jobs, profit, and energy independence, and for clean air and water.\n<\/p>\n
