\r\nSwedish flat-pack furniture giant IKEA will start selling\r\nresidential solar panels at its stores in Britain, the first step in\r\nits plan to bring renewable energy to the mainstream market\r\nworldwide.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe company started selling solar panels made by China’s Hanergy in\r\nits store in Southampton on Monday. It will sell them in the rest of\r\nBritain in coming months, it said.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nA standard, all-black 3.36 kilowatt system for a semi-detached home\r\nwill cost 5,700 British pounds ($9,200) and will include an in-store\r\nconsultation and design service as well as installation, maintenance\r\nand energy monitoring service.\r\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nWay back in December 2009 I blogged that\r\nLowe’s was already selling solar panels<\/a>\r\nand Home Depot, as well.\r\nI can’t find any on Lowe’s website at the moment, but Home Depot has\r\nkits for a variety of prices; sample in this table:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

\r\n\r\n\r\nHD’s 3.5 KW system for $8,445 is actually more for less than\r\nIkea’s 3.36 KW system for $9,200.\r\nAll HD’s Grape solar kits are listed for the Valdosta store\r\nas “free shipping”.\r\nNow in Georgia you’ll have to hire a certified solar installer\r\nto install them if you want the 35% state tax rebate or the\r\n30% federal tax credit, but that could be worth it.\r\n
