\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nWhat do you the citizens want Lowndes County to be?\r\nHere’s a chance to speak up, so when somebody asks where were you when\r\nthe decisions were being made, you don’t have to answer “lying on the couch\r\nwatching television.” (Thanks to Nolen Cox for that phrase.)\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nMy office is conducting a survey and gathering public input on\r\nFacebook (go to\r\n\r\nwww.facebook.com\/valdostalowndesmpo<\/a>) about what they\r\nwant the Lowndes County Common Community Vision to be\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n(\r\nwww.bit.ly\/LowndesCCV<\/a>). So far our participation has been low. I am\r\ncalling on all of you to encourage your friends, family and\r\ncolleagues to spread the word and let us know what you think about\r\nthe future of Lowndes County and its cities.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nOver the next two months there will be future opportunities for\r\npublic input so stay tuned.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe VLMPO is working jointly with Valdosta and Lowndes County to\r\ndevelop a Common Community Vision for future planning efforts to\r\nstart from the same community vision and sets of goals. The Common\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nCommunity Vision project is a way to gather public input to form the\r\nfuture vision for Lowndes County and Valdosta in all planning\r\nefforts. A series of public meetings and other events will be held\r\nin the Fall 2013 to gather public and stakeholder input on this\r\neffort. Lowndes\r\nCounty Common Community Vision<\/B><\/FONT><\/P>\r\n

What\r\nis the Common Community Vision?<\/B><\/FONT><\/P>\r\n

The\r\nLowndes County Common Community Vision is an opportunity for local\r\ngovernments and agencies to cooperatively develop a community wide\r\nvision statement and goals that can guide our future planning efforts\r\nthrough a coordinated process.<\/FONT><\/P>\r\n

Why\r\nare we doing this?<\/B><\/FONT><\/P>\r\n

Several\r\nagencies\/departments in Valdosta and Lowndes County are working to\r\ncreate new plans requiring the development of vision statements,\r\ngoals and objectives. This effort will allow all agencies to use a\r\ncommon, community driven vision with high level goals they can\r\nimplement through their own plans, policies and strategies.<\/FONT><\/P>\r\n

What\r\ndo we need from you, the citizen and stakeholder?<\/B><\/FONT><\/P>\r\n

We need\r\nyour feedback and input. By answering the questions below for each of\r\nthe categories and themes you will share your vision for Valdosta and\r\nLowndes County. Please describe what you think the communities\r\nstrengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats are, and how we can\r\nbuild on what we have, or mitigate negative impacts to our community\r\nand our quality of life.<\/FONT><\/P>\r\n

Where\r\ndid the categories and themes come from?<\/B><\/FONT><\/P>\r\n

Staff\r\nreviewed goal, objective, and policy statements from over 23 local,\r\nregional and state plans to identify common planning categories and\r\nthemes within those categories. As you will see there is overlap of\r\nthemes across categories (ex: land use theme in health\/safety\r\ncategory means that land use and development is important to meet\r\nhealth and safety goals).<\/FONT><\/P>\r\n



\r\n<\/P>\r\n

Please\r\ntake a few moments to answer these six questions about each of the\r\ncategories (Economic Development, Education, etc.), placing your\r\nanswers under the appropriate theme on the following pages. We want\r\nto know what you think the community is doing well and where we need\r\nto work a little harder.<\/FONT><\/P>\r\n
