\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nPetition:\r\n\r\nDivest Valdosta State From Fossil Fuels<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\nTo: VSU Administration and VSU Board of Trustees\r\n<\/strong>\r\n

\r\nWe are asking Valdosta State University to: \r\n

    \r\n
  1. \r\nDisclose information on its investments\r\n
  2. \r\nTo divest its holdings from fossil fuels within 5 years \r\n
  3. \r\nFreeze any new investments in the fossil fuel industry immediately\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

    \r\n\r\nWhy is this important?\r\n<\/strong>\r\n

    \r\nAs climate change progresses, we become more aware of the hazardous\r\nconsequences that manifest in relation to a warming planet. We\r\nunderstand that in order to combat the issue, we have to alter our\r\ndaily practices. However. the lobbying power of the major fuel\r\ncompanies has diminished the voices and power of individuals within\r\nour political system. Subsequently, policy has been written to favor\r\nthe interests of the companies benefiting from the exploitation of\r\nour environment.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

    \r\nWe are asking Valdosta State to distance itself from this industry\r\nand pursue alternatives, knowing that if we wish to address climate\r\nchange, a collaborative effort must be made.
