\r\nThe\r\n\r\nMoody Family Housing just rezoned<\/a> is in a recharge zone for\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\nour drinking water supply, the Floridan Aquifer<\/a>.\r\nWhat will keep runoff from this subdivision from feeding through\r\nthe wetlands and sinkhole into the aquifer?\r\nShould we depend on county engineering, which never put in\r\n\r\nthe traffic calming measures<\/a>\r\nrequired for nearby Nelson Hill, or other county staff,\r\nwho gave waivers for other required items there, or just didn’t\r\nrequire them to be implemented?\r\nWhat assurances can we get from our county government that Moody Family\r\nHousing won’t pollute our drinking water?\r\n

\r\nOne of the county’s own maps about REZ-2013-09 clearly shows the Phase I rezoning is in an aquifer recharge area:\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThere’s a sinkhole in the recharge zone,\r\nin the Phase II site right next to the REZ-2013-09 Phase I,\r\nclearly shown on the developers’ own site map.\r\n

\r\n\r\nAs three VSU professors\r\n\r\nlater\r\nspelled out to the Air Force and the Lowndes County Commission<\/a>:\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nIn addition to issues of possible land subsidence and formation of\r\nsinkholes, the EA should state whether potential pollutants from this\r\nresidential area will be delivered as runoff or directly piped into the\r\nUpper Floridan aquifer.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nYet this fundamental fact of the aquifer recharge zone\r\nand its implications for our drinking water\r\nwere never mentioned by Lowndes County staff\r\nor Commissioners during any of the extensive commentary about that rezoning.\r\n

\r\nWhat will the county do to keep pollution from this subdivision out of our drinking water?\r\n
