\r\nLowndes County has\r\n\r\nno press release<\/a>\r\nabout today’s\r\n\r\nPerma-Fix fire<\/a>,\r\nbut as promised\r\n\r\nVDT has pictures and video<\/a>,\r\nand here’s City of Valdosta PR,\r\n\r\nValdosta Fire Department Responds to Chemical Fire with Support of Mutual Aid<\/a>,\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThe City of Valdosta Fire Department responded to a chemical\r\nexplosion on August 14 at PermaFix Environmental Services, located\r\nat 1622 James Rodgers Circle. The call came in at 2:22 p.m. and\r\nwithin minutes more than 40 firefighters and other first responders\r\nwere on scene. The fire was under control by 4:30 p.m. with the\r\nassistance of the Lowndes County Fire Department and the Moody Air\r\nForce Base Fire Department. Also responding with aid were the\r\nValdosta Police Department, Lowndes County Sheriff’s office, the\r\nGeorgia State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nDue to the nature of the chemicals at the facility, the area was\r\nevacuated within a one-mile radius. At least three injuries have\r\nbeen reported, but no fatalities are known at this time.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe fire is under investigation. An update will be provided when\r\nmore information is available.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n
