\n\n<\/a>\nThe Chamber, the Industrial Authority, and various other local leaders\nsay they want knowledge-based jobs, or creative jobs.\nWe won’t get those just by teaching students to show up on time and\ndo what they’re told: that’s how you train factory workers,\nnot knowledge-based employees.\nFor creative jobs we also need Technology, Talent, and Tolerance.\nHow do you measure Tolerance?\nOne key component is the concentration of gays and lesbians.\nSo today’s\n\nSouth Georgia Pride Festival<\/a>\nis a good sign for creative jobs in south Georgia!\n<\/p>\n

Developed by my\nMartin Prosperity Institute colleague Kevin Stolarick, it ranks U.S.\nmetros according to three key variables\u2014the share of\nimmigrants or foreign-born residents, the Gay Index (the\nconcentration of gays and lesbians), and the Integration Index,\nwhich tracks the level of segregation between ethnic and racial\ngroups.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n\n<\/a>\nDo you recognize that shape in the middle of south Georgia?\nThat’s the Valdosta Metropolitan Statistical Area,\nconsisting of Lowndes, Echols, Lanier, and Brooks Counties.\nLooks like about 0.4 on the Tolerance Index.\nSo sure, we’re no Austin, Texas, but we’re in the same range as oh,\nCharlotte, NC.\n<\/p>\n
