This<br \/>\nprogram, now in its&#8217; 8<small><sup>th<\/sup><\/small> year brought 212 young<br \/>\n&ldquo;campers&rdquo; from around  the country into our community.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a title=\"photograph by Pat Gallagher for VDT\" href=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/local\/x1692748888\/Southern-Hospitality-Group-Workcamp-helps-with-home-repairs\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/d6673sr63mbv7.cloudfront.net\/archive\/x1692748878\/g0a00000000000000001c38265fb5b258228663090c8739731684795e6a.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nThey made badly needed repairs to 18 owner occupied homes. This<br \/>\nbrings  the total number of homes repaired to 275. Lowes RDC once<br \/>\nagain  stepped up and provided all the materials for which we are<br \/>\ntruly  grateful.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe value of the labor and materials now is in excess of $1.5M. I<br \/>\nalso  want to say thank you to the Valdosta City School system for<br \/>\nonce again  opening up Valdosta Middle to house the campers during<br \/>\ntheir stay.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe joy I witnessed in these home owners faces was especially<br \/>\ntouching. The hard work of<!--more--> city staff to plan and execute the work<br \/>\ncamp along with these truly amazing young people is a blessing to<br \/>\nour  city and its&#8217; residents.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nMost all saw the horrible news about a local homicide back a few<br \/>\nweeks  ago. Hopefully you also saw where within two days the<br \/>\ndetectives with  VPD along with staff from the V\/L Crime Lab solved<br \/>\nthe murder and had  two suspects in custody. This could not have<br \/>\nbeen done without the  hard work of our law enforcement staff and<br \/>\nthe tools you the citizens  have provided. Specifically the value of<br \/>\nyour investment into the  crime lab and the ability of law<br \/>\nenforcement to use video from our  traffic cameras.
