{"id":492,"date":"2012-09-16T13:39:35","date_gmt":"2012-09-16T17:39:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/09\/no-other-state-has-had-a-positive-outcome-for-a-charter-positive-ballot-initiative-former-t-splost-proponents-now-pushing-c.html"},"modified":"2012-09-16T13:39:35","modified_gmt":"2012-09-16T17:39:35","slug":"no-other-state-has-had-a-positive-outcome-for-a-charter-positive-ballot-initiative-former-t-splost-proponents-now-pushing-c","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/09\/no-other-state-has-had-a-positive-outcome-for-a-charter-positive-ballot-initiative-former-t-splost-proponents-now-pushing-c.html","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;No other state has had a positive outcome for a charter-positive ballot initiative&#8221; &mdash;former T-SPLOST proponents now pushing charter schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nThe same people who pushed the failed T-SPLOST tax referendum\non the July primary ballot are now pushing the charter school referendum\non the November general election ballot.\nFour of their leaders are the same specific individuals,\nincluding one from right here in Lowndes County.\nThey&#8217;re pushing something they admit has failed in every other state.\nLet&#8217;s not be the first to fall for it.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/local\/x1155871226\/Former-Lowndes-resident-hopes-to-bring-governors-message-to-small-towns\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017d3c1639ce970c\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017d3c1639ce970c-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nAccording to the\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gacharters.org\/\">\nGeorgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA)<\/a>,\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\nNo other state has had a positive outcome for a\ncharter-positive ballot initiative\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nSo even one of the major proponents of charter schools admits\nno other state&#8217;s voters have thought they were a good idea.\nTheir <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1dE4ga23jIgbFa_7mxE7JcvmSCyflhct5l_Kd1FJsL6k\/edit\">slides<\/a>\nlay out a pair of statewide major money campaigns to push the referendum anyway.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWe know about this because these slides fell into the hands of\nthe AJC, and\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ajc.com\/political-insider-jim-galloway\/2012\/09\/15\/a-private-electronic-memo-outlines-charter-school-campaign\/?cxntfid=blogs_political_insider_jim_galloway\">Jim Galloway published them today,<\/a> saying:\n<\/p>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nThe presentation describes a $2.7 million statewide campaign that\nwill be divided into a $974,000 tax-free \u201ceducational\u201d\neffort dubbed \u201cBrighter Georgia,\u201d controlled by the\ncharter schools association, and a traditional get-out-the-vote\ncampaign with a $1.8 million price tag called Families for Better\nSchools. That&#8217;s a page torn right from the T-SPLOST push.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe two organizations had raised a combined $988,000 as of Sept. 1,\nthe memo said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAt the top of the organizational chart of the Families for Better\nSchools campaign \u2014 contained within the memo \u2014 is a\nbipartisan team of political strategists: Republicans Chip Lake,\nHeath Garrett and Mitch Hunter; and Democrat Chris Carpenter. A\ntimely use of the word &#8220;hope&#8221; by charter school advocates\n<\/p>\n<p>\nA timely use of the word &#8220;hope&#8221; by charter school advocates\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAll four were involved in the July 31 T-SPLOST effort \u2014 but in\nthe statewide campaign outside metro Atlanta, where three regions\nactually approved the tax.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nBert Brantley, who served as the voice of the doomed metro Atlanta\nT-SPLOST campaign, will serve as spokesman for the charter school\ncampaign. Brantley confirmed the accuracy of the information\ncontained in the GCSA&#8217;s outline of the campaign \u2014 which was\nnot intended for public distribution.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nSo, they&#8217;re doubling down on financial disaster for the state.\nAnd this time they&#8217;re gambling with our children&#8217;s education.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nBert &#8220;Little Goose&#8221; Brantley\nlived in Dasher and\nattended Lake Park Elementary School, Lowndes Middle, and Lowndes High School,\naccording to\nDean Poling in the VDT 31 December 2006,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/valdostadailytimes.com\/local\/x1155871226\/Former-Lowndes-resident-hopes-to-bring-governors-message-to-small-towns\">\nFormer Lowndes resident hopes to bring governor&#8217;s message to small towns<\/a>.\nIt&#8217;s sad he&#8217;s now promoting a referendum that would work against\nthe public schools he attended.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nVote No on state-forced charter schools in November.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The same people who pushed the failed T-SPLOST tax referendum on the July primary ballot are now pushing the charter school referendum on the November general election ballot.
