Brantley,<\/a>\nformerly of Lowndes County, defends that wording.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nPaul Crawley wrote for 11alive.com September 12 2012,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.11alive.com\/news\/article\/256427\/40\/Is-Charter-Schools-Amendment-wording-biased\">\nIs Charter Schools Amendment wording biased?<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nHere we go again, apparently another ballot issue with questions\nabout whether it&#8217;s worded fairly.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nFirst, it was the July 31st transportation sales tax issue, known as\nT-SPLOST, which Georgia voters rejected overwhelmingly.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOpponents howled when they found out the ballot preamble wording\npromised to &#8220;create jobs&#8221; and &#8220;relieve traffic congestion&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nNow, opponents of a November ballot question are also crying foul.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.11alive.com\/news\/article\/256427\/40\/Is-Charter-Schools-Amendment-wording-biased\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c31e83594970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c31e83594970b-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nThey&#8217;re upset over the preamble wording for the Charter School\nCommission Amendment.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIt reads, &#8220;Provides for improving student achievement and parental\ninvolvement through more public charter school options.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nHow can the preamble say that?\n<\/p>\n\n<!--more-->\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nLike T-SPLOST, it&#8217;s a hot issue that has non-partisan supporters and\nopponents.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOpponent Elizabeth Hooper told 11 Alive on Wednesday that she\nbelieves the Charter Schools Amendment preamble is also rigged to\nget &#8220;yes&#8221; votes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;It&#8217;s absolutely biased,&#8221; she said, &#8220;Who wouldn&#8217;t be for improving\nstudent achievement?&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\nHooper points out that the bill authorizing the amendment vote\ndoesn&#8217;t mention either &#8220;improving student achievement&#8221; or &#8220;parental\ninvolvement&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;To say that is going to happen is a lie,&#8221; she added.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nCall in the Little Goose to goose it along!\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nBert Brantley, spokesman for the pro amendment group Families for\nBetter Public Schools, told 11 Alive News a recent study by the\nGovernor&#8217;s Office of Student Achievement proves they make a\ndifference.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;I think it&#8217;s factual,&#8221; he said of the preamble wording.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;We&#8217;ve got proof that state charter schools perform better than the\nschools in the districts where those charters are located,&#8221; Brantley\nsaid.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;We know that parental involvement increases in charter schools\nbecause parents are on the board; they&#8217;re more involved,&#8221; he added.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nReally?\nWhere is this proof?\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/09\/charter-school-bait-and-switch.html\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c31e83598970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c31e83598970b-pi.jpg\"   width=\"150\" height=\"109\"  \/><\/a>\nHis <a href=\"http:\/\/bettergaschools.org\/\">\nFamilies for Better Public Schools<\/a>\nwebsite is the same as\n<a href=\"http:\/\/georgiahope2012.com\/\">\nGeorgiaHope2012.com<\/a>\nthat I already examined in\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/09\/charter-school-bait-and-switch.html\">\nCharter school bait and switch<\/a>.\nIf it&#8217;s got proof on there, it&#8217;s cleverly hidden\namong all the flashy graphics and attempts at emotional appeal.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThat&#8217;s a wild goose chase anyway, whether charter schools are better or worse.\nThat&#8217;s not what the referendum is about.\nIt&#8217;s about authorizing an appointed state committee to force charter schools\non local communities whose school boards don&#8217;t want them, and then using\nlocal sales and property taxes to pay more per student to charter schools\nthan to public schools.\nNo wonder it&#8217;s the same old T-SPLOST pushers now pushing this referendum!\nThat referendum was about giving the state control over local sales taxes,\nand so is this one.\nIt&#8217;s not really about charter schools;
