\r\nThe County has another wastewater violation, this time at the Alapaha River,\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nand is late in doing something about it.\r\nDon’t be surprised if we see an emergency change order in a future session.\r\nThis was at the\r\n\r\nMonday 22 July 2013 Lowndes County Commission Work Session<\/a>; they vote tonight.\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"Mike<\/a>\r\n7.b.\r\nLetter to Environmental Protection Division concerning Alapaha Water Treatment Plant Upgrade \r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nIt’s because of a notice of violation from GA EPD, said Utilities Director Mike Allen,\r\nand he’d been working with Lovell Engineering on a letter to say the problem\r\nof disinfection byproducts would be fixed by the end of March 2015.\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"on<\/a>\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall wanted to know if \r\nLovell Engineering would be submitting “on our behalf, or would we be submitting it?”\r\nAllen said yes.\r\nMarshall wanted to know if they’d be doing the pilot study as well.\r\nAllen said yes.\r\n

\r\nCounty Manager Joe Pritchard said\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"and<\/a>\r\nCommissioner,\r\nthey have been representing us to this point.\r\nAs you know we have talked to a number of engineering firms,\r\none of which will be meeting with us this week.\r\nSo at this point, in order to comply with the deadline submitted by EPD,\r\nit was necessary to go ahead and work with Lovell on this.\r\nAnd then if there is any change related to it we will make that information\r\naware [?] as we report it back to you.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nGet ready for an emergency change order for some tens of thousands of dollars:\r\nit’s the county way.\r\n

\r\nThe county is late with\r\n\r\nits SPLOST list<\/a>, too.\r\nWhat’s the common thread in multiple projects being late?\r\nWho’s the County Manager?\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"Lake<\/a>\r\nI asked Mike Allen before the meeting where this Alapaha Water Treatment Plant is.\r\nHe said it’s in the subdivision south of US 84 at the Alapaha River; he said drive in there and you’ll see it.\r\nSo apparently it is the upgrade\r\n\r\nReed Construction Data<\/a> has for about $500,000\r\non US 84 as engineered by Lovell Engineering:\r\n

\r\nWater Treatment, Sewage Treatment The Work To Be Done Shall Consist\r\nOf Furnishing All Labor Materials & Equipment Necessary To Construct\r\nThe Project Titled Alapaha Water Treatment Facility As Shown On The\r\nConstruction Drawings In General Construction Consists Of\r\nApproximately 950 LF Of 6 PVC Watermain, Relocation Of 20000 Gallon\r\nHydro-Pneumatic Tank, Valves, Fittings, Controls, Erosion Control\r\nGrassing, 2 Submersible Wells, Water Supplies Sulfide Removal\r\nStripper Tank, 2 Booster Pumps, 16\u2032 X 16\u2032 Blcok Masonry Bldg &\r\nAll Other Associated Apertures Necessary For A Complete Installation\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nWhat’s the common thread in information like this not being included\r\nwith the agenda so the public can see what its tax money is being spent on?\r\nThe County Manager, the County Clerk, and the Commissioners.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
