Jacobson&#39;s study shows\r\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/09\/all-us-east-coast-electricity-could-come-from-offshore-wind-3-seasons-out-of-4.html\">\r\noffshore wind is plentiful from Virginia to Maine<\/a>\r\nLet&#39;s\r\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/04\/energy-reliability-lets-do-the-study-for-georgia.html\">\r\ndo the study for Georgia!<\/a>\r\nSouthern Company\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.southerncompany.com\/smart_energy\/smart_power_partners.html\">\r\nbrags about its private R&amp;D:<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<h3>Research &amp; Development (since the 1960s)<\/h3>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.southerncompany.com\/smart_energy\/smart_power_partners.html#\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"    class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017d3c229f94970c\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017d3c229f94970c-pi.jpg\" \/><\/a>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Awarded more than $1.3 billion to conduct more than $3.8 billion of research and development.\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>Qualified for $412 million of investment tax credits for a 21st century coal plant being built in Mississippi.\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nOK, SO, let&#39;s see you do the study to show what we can really do with\r\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2011\/04\/energy-reliability-lets-do-the-study-for-georgia.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"    class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b0163059d6cba970d\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b0163059d6cba970d-pi.jpg\" \/><\/a>\r\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/07\/will-electricity-demand-increase.html\">\r\nconservation, efficiency,<\/a> wind, sun, and less natural gas than we have now.\r\nSure, in the Georgia Bight we <em>do<\/em> have to contend with hurricanes.\r\nBut a\r\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/05\/big-bet-on-solar-power-sam-booher-shale-and-australia-so-ceo-thomas-a-fanning-so-2012-05-23.html\">\r\n&quot;great, big company&quot;<\/a>\r\nlike SO should be able to focus its vaunted private R&amp;D on that problem and solve it.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nMaybe SO doesn&#39;t want to do that because the result might show there is no need for\r\nany coal plants, nor new natural gas plants, nor any nuclear plants, which would mean\r\nGeorgia Power would have to give up its nuclear-funding rate-hike stealth tax\r\nand SO would have to give up its $8.3 billion loan guarantee.\r\nHey, we might even need to\r\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/09\/change-the-atomic-energy-act-how-about-change-the-georgia-electric-territorial-act.html\">\r\nchange the 1973 Georgia Electric Territorial Act<\/a>,\r\nand that might damage Georgia Power&#39;s guaranteed profit!\r\nNevermind that Georgia Power and SO might make <em>more<\/em> profit if they got out\r\nin front on solar and wind power and a smart grid.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nIf SO won&#39;t do it, how about we elect some Public Service Commissioners and legislators who will?\r\nFor\r\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/06\/clean-green-jobs-for-more-community-and-profit.html\">\r\njobs, energy independence, and profit, oh, and clean air and plenty of water!<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n-jsq\r\n<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Mark Z.
