\nA shareholder in Virginia-based K12 Inc. has filed a lawsuit against\n\n\"K12<\/a>\nthe virtual-schools operator in federal court, alleging that the\nfirm violated securities law by making false statements to investors\nabout students’ poor performance on standardized tests.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe class-action complaint, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in\nAlexandria, also accuses K12 of boosting its enrollment and revenues\nthrough \u201cdeceptive recruiting\u201d practices.\n<\/p>\n

\nHerndon-based K12 is the country’s largest operator of full-time\npublic virtual schools, a growing sector in which students as young\nas five learn at home via computer.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe lawsuit comes after a spate of national news stories \u2014\nincluding in The Washington Post \u2014 raised questions about the\neffectiveness of virtual schools, K12’s in particular. The firm’s\nstock has since plummeted.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
