One worker was killed\r\nand four others injured when the load fell.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nDave Lochbaum wrote for Union of Concerned Scientists 18 June 2013,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/allthingsnuclear.org\/fission-stories-139-arkansas-nuclear-one-fatal-event\/\">\r\nFission Stories #139: Arkansas Nuclear One Fatal Event<\/a>,\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThe\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/reading-rm\/doc-collections\/nuregs\/staff\/sr1774\/sr1774.pdf\">\r\nNRC reviewed U.S. nuclear plant experience with lifting loads\r\nwith cranes<\/a> between 1968 and 2002. The NRC reported that about two\r\nload drops per year happened during this period with ten incidents\r\ncausing deaths. The NRC&#8217;s review concluded that there had been only\r\nthree very heavy load drops (defined as a load weighing more than 30\r\ntons). ANO-1 makes four.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nWhile accidents can also happen with wind turbines or even\r\ninstalling solar panels on rooftops,\r\na single solar or wind accident doesn&#8217;t<!--more--> take down\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/info-finder\/reactor\/ano1.html\">\r\n2,568 megwatts<\/a> for 3 1\/2 months.\r\nBig baseload is fragile.\r\nAnd ANO1 is still down:\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/nrc\/reactor\/status\/arkansas-nuclear-1.timeline.php?zoomstarttime=2013-02-01\" title=\"ANO1 still down\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2846\/9301324274_7bc0c61baf_z.jpg\" alt=\"ANO1 still down\"><\/a>\r\n<p>\r\nANO1 is run by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/nrc\/reactor\/status\/byop-Entergy-Nuclear-Operations.timeline.php\">\r\nEntergy<\/a>, the same company that\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/02\/pilgrim-nuke-shut-down-in-winter-storm-again-this-weekend.html\">\r\ncouldn&#8217;t keep the power on during the Super Bowl, and couldn&#8217;t keep Pilgrim 1 open during a Massachusetts snowstorm<\/a>.\r\nThe bigger they are, the harder they fall.\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Apparently we still don&#8217;t know why this happened: At approximately 7:50am on Sunday, March 31, 2013, a 600-ton generator stator fell onto the turbine deck and then about 30 feet to the train bay floor as was being lifted out of the Unit 1 turbine building at the Arkansas Nuclear One plant.
