Over\r\nthe years, state regulators have cleared the way for the utility to\r\nland new power plants, more transmission lines and rate increases,\r\noften without much heated debate.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nWalter C. Jones\r\nwrote for jacksonville.com yesterday,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/jacksonville.com\/news\/georgia\/2013-07-10\/story\/psc-likely-require-georgia-power-double-its-reliance-solar-power\">\r\nPSC likely to require Georgia Power to double its reliance on solar power Thursday<\/a><!--more-->\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThe state&#8217;s largest electric utility is almost certain to be\r\nrequired Thursday to double its access to solar power when the\r\nPublic Service Commission votes on Georgia Power Co.&#8217;s 20-year plan.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nLate Wednesday, Stan Wise, the member of the five-man commission\r\nmost resistant to requiring a specified amount of solar energy,\r\nreleased the wording of technical details he&#8217;ll propose on how solar\r\ngeneration will be added.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n&ldquo;I intend to offer the attached motion in the special\r\n[meeting] tomorrow. The rationale for which I will explain at that\r\ntime,&rdquo; he said in a one-line email to reporters with the\r\nattached motion.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nHe is offering an amendment to a motion Commissioner Lauren\r\n&ldquo;Bubba&rdquo; McDonald will make requiring Georgia Power to\r\nadd about 250 megawatts of solar generation.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nWise&#8217;s announcement essentially means he&#8217;s supporting McDonald&#8217;s\r\nidea.
