Meanwhile we have to raise taxes to simply educate the\nstudents attending our public schools. This is clearly NOT a plan to\n&#8216;improve academic achievement&#8217; as the preamble boldly lies.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/09\/charter-school-preamble-biased-like-t-splost.html\">\nThe preamble<\/a> is boldly inaccurate and completely biased. The wording\nadded to the question on the ballot implies that the amendment would\nimprove student achievement and parent involvement. My stars, what\nbreathing individual doesn&#8217;t want those things.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nFacts are that by some measures charter schools perform 3% worse\nthan traditional public schools. We would hope that schools where\nparents have to sign a commitment of parent involvement would have\nsuperior parent involvement. Might I just add that students can be\nkicked out of charter schools and all students are educated in the\nTraditional Public School setting as per our Georgia constitution.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe &#8216;biased and inaccurate&#8217; wording in the preamble to the charter\nschools question is not found in\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/03\/stop-the-privatization-of-public-education-in-georgia-fannie-jackson.html\">\nHB 1162<\/a>, the law that allowed this\nquestion to be placed on the ballot. It is not in\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/09\/public-schools-to-be-treated-less-favorably-than-charter-schools.html\">\nHB 797<\/a>, the law\nthaw would be enacted should the amendment pass.
