{"id":459,"date":"2012-09-30T07:46:01","date_gmt":"2012-09-30T11:46:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/09\/a-parallel-state-school-system-that-we-have-no-control-over-christie-davis.html"},"modified":"2012-09-30T07:46:01","modified_gmt":"2012-09-30T11:46:01","slug":"a-parallel-state-school-system-that-we-have-no-control-over-christie-davis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/09\/a-parallel-state-school-system-that-we-have-no-control-over-christie-davis.html","title":{"rendered":"A parallel state school system that we have no control over. &mdash;Christie Davis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N0QJvOxeNUA\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c32395f88970b\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c32395f88970b-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nA local middle school teacher spelled out problems with the\ncharter school referendum: no local control over creation or operation\nof the charter schools it would authorize; money siphoned off from\nexisting local schools; and charter schools actually perform\nworse than traditional public schools anyway.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lowndes.k12.ga.us\/HMS\/Class\/269-Christie-Davis\">\nChristie Davis<\/a>, a teacher at Hahira Middle School,\nspeaking at the Lowndes County Tea Party monthly meeting Thursday,\npointed out it&#8217;s not just the\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/09\/our-south-georgia-school-tax-dollars-would-go-to-virginia-rich-people-karen-noll.html\">\npreamble<\/a>\nto the referendum that&#8217;s misleading.\nThe actual wording of the referendum is also misleading:\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\nShall the Constitution of Georgia be amended to allow state or local approval\nof public charter schools upon the request of local communities?\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nShe remarked:\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nIt sounds very good that we should say yes.\nIt&#8217;s very misleading.\nAnd the reason why it&#8217;s misleading is totally purposeful.\nIt says something about local communities.\nWe already have that right in our local community, our local boards, to go ahead\nand implement a charter school, if we see the need.\nHowever, they put it in there so that voters that don&#8217;t really know\nwhat&#8217;s going on think they&#8217;re helping our local schools by voting yes.\nHowever, by voting yes, it will be funding a parallel state school system\nthat we have no control over.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nHere&#8217;s\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N0QJvOxeNUA\">\nthe video:<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/N0QJvOxeNUA\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"315\" width=\"420\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<small>\nA parallel state school system that we have no control over. \u2014Christie Davis\n<br \/>\nVideo by John S.
