\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nYou’re on your own if that pipeline company wants your property;\r\nthe county government chooses to stay completely out of it,\r\nso said Lowndes County Chairman Bill Slaughter\r\nat\r\n\r\nthe 25 June Regular Session of the Lowndes County Commission<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nHe read a prepared statement about a proposed natural gas pipeline.\r\nWhy the county couldn’t put it on their\r\nwebsite as a press release is mysterious.\r\nI’ve added the links:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nLowndes County has been\r\ncontacted by representatives of\r\n\r\nMcKenna, Long, Aldridge law firm<\/a>\r\nof Atlanta\r\nregarding a proposed project expected to impact property owners\r\nof Lowndes County.\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\nSpectra Energy Company<\/a> and its subsidiary,\r\n\r\nSabal Trail Transmissions LLC<\/a> anticipates construction\r\nof a 465 mile interstate natural gas pipeline from Anniston, Alabama\r\nextending through Georgia and coming through Lowndes County,\r\nterminating in Orlando, Florida.\r\n

\r\nThis project is for the benefit of and is the responsibility of\r\nFlorida Power and Light.\r\nLowndes County has been notified as well as all the\r\ngovernmental entities impacted by this project and\r\nLowndes County does not benefit from this proposal\r\nand has no responsibility for the approval\r\nother than that of a property owner potentially impacted by the\r\nproposed route as any other property owner in Lowndes County would be.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nThen he ad libbed:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nI just want to clarify that Lowndes County has no interest in the\r\npipeline.\r\nIf Lowndes County has any property that this pipeline will be\r\ncoming through, we will be addressed as well as any private property owners\r\nas well.\r\nThat question has come up and I hope that clarifies that.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nWell, no, it doesn’t clarify why the county government is acting\r\nlike a private business instead of like a local government.\r\nSure if your the CEO of a company and your land isn’t affected,\r\nyou have no responsibility for anybody else who is affected.\r\nBut if you’re the Chairman of the county government, you do\r\nhave responsibility, for example to determine whether the\r\npipeline is beneficial to the county,\r\nhas safety implications, or for that matter where it would go.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nThe county didn’t even provide a map of the route,\r\nand the one on\r\n\r\nSabal Trail’s website<\/a> is not linkable.\r\nHere’s one from\r\n\r\nthe Suwannee Democrat<\/a>:\r\n
