\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nThe political appointee was replaced by a librarian,\r\nand the marketing guy by a marketing guy,\r\nat\r\n\r\nthe 25 June Regular Session of the Lowndes County Commission.<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n5.a. Lowndes County Library Board\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nBack\r\n\r\non June 10th<\/a>\r\n\r\nLibrary Director Kelly Lenz brought\r\ncandidates\r\nJack Hartley, Linda Most, and Matt Lawrence,\r\nwho spoke, and\r\n\r\nat the June 24th Work Session<\/a>\r\n\r\n\"County<\/a>\r\nCommissioner Joyce Evans submitted the name of Mr. Robert Jefferson,\r\nwho did not speak.\r\n

\r\n\r\nThis time County Manager Joe Pritchard mumbled behind his monitor\r\nand did not deign to name any of the candidates, referring to “a list”\r\nthat Commissioners could see but the public could not.\r\nHe did say that the openings were for the board slots previously occupied by\r\nKay Harris and Ray Devery.\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"Kay<\/a>\r\nPrevious political appointee Kay Harris\r\n\r\nfailed to get the new library at Five Points approved<\/a>\r\nin\r\n\r\nlast year’s failed SPLOST VII vote<\/a>\r\nand\r\n\r\nresigned as Library Board Chair and from that board 15 March 2013<\/a>.\r\nHere are\r\n\r\nsome related points she never seemed to discuss<\/a>.\r\nAnd while she and the County Commission and the Valdosta City Council\r\nand Mayor pointed fingers about who lost SPLOST,\r\n\r\nHouston County already passed their SPLOST the previous Spring<\/a>,\r\nmaybe by paying some attention to what the voters and sales tax payers wanted.\r\nMaybe the county has finally changed its tune on listening,\r\nconsidering\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\nCommissioner Joyce Evans’ recent announcement<\/a>\r\nthat the county would hold two town hall meetings before finalizing\r\nits SPLOST list.\r\nShe didn’t call them public hearings, but that’s some improvement.\r\n

\r\nRay Devery, who\r\n\r\ndidn’t like Gretchen videoing<\/a>\r\nand\r\n\r\n\"Ray<\/a>\r\n\r\ndidn’t seem to like Southside Library Boosters much<\/a>\r\nis also off the Library Board.\r\nHe at least used to be VSU\r\n\r\nVice President for Institutional Advancement<\/a> and\r\n\r\nDirector of Development<\/a>,\r\nwhich is edu-speak for he sought investment for VSU.\r\n

\r\nCommissioner Demarcus Marshall nominated Linda Most and Jack Hartley,\r\nsaying they were the top two recommended by the Library Board.\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n\r\nSeconded by Commissioner Powell.\r\nUnanimously approved.\r\n

\r\nSo they appointed a librarian and a sales and marketing guy to the Library Board.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
