Blood wrote for AP yesterday,\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/news\/ci_21696134\/future-damaged-calif-nuke-plant-coming-clearer\">\nTroubled Calif. nuke plant aims to restart reactor,<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nThe company announced plans to repair and restart one of two damaged\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/news\/ci_21696134\/future-damaged-calif-nuke-plant-coming-clearer\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017d3c85252c970c\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017d3c85252c970c-pi.jpg\"    \/><\/a>\nreactors, Unit 2, at reduced power to hopefully halt vibration that\nhas caused excessive wear to scores of tubes that carry radioactive\nwater. The outlook for its heavily damaged sister, Unit 3, appears\ngrim and no decision on its future is expected until at least next\nsummer.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Nuclear Regulatory Commission is expected to take months to\nreview the plan, and there is no timetable to restart the plant.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nThere are a few signs that the eventual outcome is dawning on some utility people.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\nPlans are already taking shape that envision lower output from San\nOnofre at least into 2013.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Whenever you lose generation, it has implications,&#8221; said San Diego\nGas &amp; Electric spokeswoman Jennifer Ramp.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nWell, yeah, and losing big blocks of power is one of the implications\nof depending on a few big baseload plants in the first place.\nDistributed\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/10\/a-billion-people-on-solar-india.html\">\nsolar<\/a>\nand\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/09\/southern-company-lets-do-the-renewable-energy-study-for-georgia.html\">\nwind<\/a> wouldn&#8217;t have this problem.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Southern California Edison bet on big baseload nuclear, and has been out two units for eight months and counting.
