\r\nCarter and Olivia were invited to speak during the Georgia Public\r\nService Commission IRP Hearing. Our friends from the Sierra Club and\r\nfrom Greening Forward asked Olivia and Carter to speak and to share\r\ntheir concerns with regards to the fact that GA Power is still\r\nfocusing on burning more coal as opposed to switching to alternative\r\npower solutions like wind and solar.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nAs a monopoly, Georgia Power is regulated by the Georgia Public\r\nService Commission (PSC)- made up of five elected officials. Every\r\nthree years, Georgia Power is required to file an \u2018Integrated\r\nResource Plan’ (IRP) for approval by the PSC. The IRP lays out the\r\ncompany’s 20- year energy plan to generate electricity for the State\r\nof Georgia, including proposals to build new or retire old energy\r\nfacilities. The PSC has the authority to reject, amend, or approve\r\nthis plan as they see best for the customers and shareholders of\r\nGeorgia Power.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n
