{"id":4377,"date":"2013-06-26T11:47:59","date_gmt":"2013-06-26T15:47:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?p=4377"},"modified":"2013-06-26T11:49:26","modified_gmt":"2013-06-26T15:49:26","slug":"fukushima-floating-wind-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/fukushima-floating-wind-begins.html","title":{"rendered":"Fukushima Floating Wind Begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\r\nJapan&#8217;s TEPCO is deploying the offshore wind solution we need in Georgia.\r\nIt&#8217;s big baseload, Georgia Power and Southern Company, just like you like!\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nMartin Foster write for Wind Power Monthly 25 June 2013,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.windpowermonthly.com\/article\/1187536\/work-starts-fukushima-floating-project\">\r\nWork starts on Fukushima floating project:\r\nJAPAN: Installation of wind turbines in the testing phase of the biggest offshore floating project to date will finally get under way this week, 20 kilometres off the coast of Fukushima.<\/a>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.windpowermonthly.com\/article\/1187536\/work-starts-fukushima-floating-project\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:230px;\" src=\"http:\/\/cached.imagescaler.hbpl.co.uk\/resize\/scaleWidth\/460\/?sUrl=http:\/\/offlinehbpl.hbpl.co.uk\/news\/OPW\/7AAF64EC-F6BD-62A7-E5A9FC025DC18A74.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nTwo 2MW downwind floating turbines are scheduled to be towed from\r\nshipyards belonging to Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding in Chiba\r\nprefecture to Onahama port on 28 June, according to a new schedule\r\nreleased by Takeshi Ishihara a civil engineering professor at the\r\nUniversity of Tokyo and technical adviser to the project.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThese are the floating wind farms\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/01\/2-gigawatts-of-wind-power-off-fukushima-plus-solar.html\">\r\ndesigned to survive tsunamis and typhoons<\/a>.\r\nA typhoon is the Pacific Ocean version of a hurricane.\r\nHow about we tether some of these to the continental shelf off the coast of \r\nGeorgia?\r\nThen they plus solar onshore could replace Plants Vogtle and Hatch the same way\r\nthese wind turbines plus solar inland are replacing Fukushima Dai-ichi.\r\n<\/p><!--more-->\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/01\/2-gigawatts-of-wind-power-off-fukushima-plus-solar.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;width:300px;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b016766d8b1f2970b-pi.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nThe massive floating wind farm project, which is being developed by\r\nan 11-entity consortium lead by Marubeni Corporation, may eventually\r\nsee 132 floating turbines come on line. It has been named Fukushima\r\nMirai, literally the future of Fukushima, and has been planned as\r\npart of post-nuclear disaster recovery efforts in the area.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThis is the sort of massive baseload project a great big company\r\nlike the Southern Company and its biggest part Georgia Power likes.\r\nTime to get on board for offshore wind, Tom Fanning and Paul Bowers!\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Japan&#8217;s TEPCO is deploying the offshore wind solution we need in Georgia.
