\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nDo we have designated positions for specific local businesses on our appointed boards?\r\nIt sure looks like it, at least for Wild Adventures.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n5.a. Valdosta\/Lowndes County Conference Center and Tourism Authority <\/a>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nAt the Work Session 10 June 2013<\/a>\r\nCounty Manager Joe Pritchard said Commissioners had a letter of resignation\r\nfrom Bob Montgomery from VLCCCTA,\r\nand a letter (he didn’t say from whom)\r\nrecommending Molly Deese to replace Montgomery.\r\nPritchard said Deese had been “filling in” for Montgomery at VLCCCTA.\r\nInteresting. So Wild Adventures can send someone unappointed to fill in\r\non an appointed board?\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nHe didn’t say who Deese is, but she is\r\n\r\nVice President and General Manager of Wild Adventures<\/a>.\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nMontgomery was the previous General Manager of Wild Adventures,\r\n\r\nsince the end of 2007<\/a>.\r\nThey previously\r\n\r\nappointed Bob Montgomery 11 January 2011<\/a>.\r\nAccording to\r\n\r\nthe minutes of the 10 January 2011 Work Session<\/a>,\r\n

\r\nCommissioner Evans added she felt Moody Air Force Base should be\r\nrepresented. Commissioner Raines commented that with regards to the\r\nexpired seat, Mr. Montgomery would be a good choice since Wild\r\nAdventures is the single, largest tourist attraction in Lowndes\r\nCounty.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nApparently this is the Wild Adventures slot on VLCCCTA.\r\nAs we’ve seen with KLVB 12 February 2013,\r\n\r\na Wild Adventures candidate for a board doesn’t even need to show up<\/a>\r\nto get appointed.\r\n

\r\nTo her credit, Ms. Deese did appear and speak.\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"Molly<\/a>\r\nI am the General Manager of Wild Adventures, and I have been in that role since\r\nOctober of 2012.\r\nAnd really the relationship that I’ve had with the Tourism Authority is really working\r\nclosely to help bring tourism to Valdosta.\r\nAnd really working closely with Tim Riddle and and the other individuals.\r\nBeing involved with the community; really spending time to understand more\r\nabout the different aspects of our tourism.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nRiddle is the\r\nExecutive Director of VLCCCTA<\/a>.\r\n

\r\nThere were no questions, but Commissioner Crawford Powell said:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nI just want to thank you for being willing to serve.\r\nWe kind of identified a slot on the Conference Center for Wild Adventures\r\nbecause of the impact that you guys have on the region, and I want to thank\r\nyou for being willing to step in and assist and to serve and be a part of it.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nIn what set of minutes is this “kind of identified” recorded?\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nDeese thanked Powell.\r\n<\/p>\r\n
