--Chairman Slaughter\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5452\/9113781093_d32583e789_z.jpg\" alt=\"Motion to adjourn? --Chairman Slaughter\"><\/a>\r\n<p style=\"font-style: normal\">\r\nThe subsequent excuses included:\r\n<\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nIt&#8217;s not about right or wrong anymore.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"font-style: normal\">\r\nNevermind that most of the people in the room thought it was,\r\nas well as many of the citizens and voters in the county.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nWe have to follow the process.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-style: normal\">\r\nNevermind they didn&#8217;t hold<!--more-->\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/state-law-requires-public-hearing-before-trash-decision.html\">\r\nthe public hearing state law requires<\/a>\r\n&#8220;before entering into a contract for the sale, lease, or management of a landfill or solid waste disposal facility owned by such county&#8221;.\r\n<p style=\"font-style: normal\">\r\nOne Commissioner first said the landfill was privatized\r\nlong before he was on the Commission,\r\nthen when I read that passage,\r\nsaid they had to go by the County Attorney&#8217;s opinion.\r\nWhy do we bother having elected officials if staff determine all decisions?\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/98706376@N00\/9116010560\/sizes\/z\/\" title=\"Adjourned\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5546\/9116010560_33733b5160_z.jpg\" alt=\"Adjourned\"><\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"font-style: normal\">\r\nAnd,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/youre-losing-the-democratic-process-gary-wright-lcc-2013-06-11.html\">\r\nas previously noted<\/a>,\r\nthe Chairman said he didn\u2019t want Commissioners or staff answering\r\nbecause that might start a dialog which might not be orderly.\r\nThis is the only Commission or Council among any I&#8217;ve ever seen or heard of\r\nthat is so afraid of listening to its own citizens that\r\nit sets arbitrary time limits just to avoid doing that.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"font-style: normal\">\r\nOh yes, the Chairman also explained the Exclusive Franchise with Veolia\r\nhas an annual review built into it, which comes up in December.\r\nWhen I pointed out\r\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/02\/videos-tabled-hotchkiss-landing-road-closing-but-trash-co-apology-lcc-2013-02-12.html#jsq\">again<\/a>)\r\nthat it also has\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/exclusive-franchise-for-solid-waste-collection-services-lcc-2012-12-11.html\">\r\na termination clause for non performance<\/a>,\r\nthe Chairman said yes but only five or so citizens per some time period\r\nisn&#8217;t enough for that.\r\nI didn&#8217;t know how many petition signatures\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/thanks-to-the-community-and-i-dont-understand-cary-scarborough-lcc-2013-06-11.html\">\r\nCary Scarborough had just handed in<\/a>,\r\nbut however many they were, apparently none of those names counted.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nHere&#8217;s\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xnzrC7vkI88\">\r\nthe video:<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center;font-size:80%\">\r\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xnzrC7vkI88\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\r\n<br>\r\nAjourn into trash excuses\r\n<br>\r\nRegular Session, Lowndes County Commission (LCC),\r\n<br>\r\nVideo by Gretchen Quarterman for Lowndes Area Knowledge Exchange (LAKE),\r\n<br>\r\nValdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia, 11 June 2013.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Citizens still wanted to talk about solid waste after the Commission adjourned the Tuesday 11 June 2013 Lowndes County Commission Regular Session.
