{"id":4088,"date":"2013-06-14T14:02:30","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T18:02:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?p=4088"},"modified":"2013-06-17T10:49:46","modified_gmt":"2013-06-17T14:49:46","slug":"more-new-nukes-to-stop-vogtle-summer-and-15-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/more-new-nukes-to-stop-vogtle-summer-and-15-more.html","title":{"rendered":"More new nukes to stop: Vogtle, Summer, and 15 more"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\r\nAlthough\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/tva-bellefonte-nuke-wont-be-built.html\">\r\nTVA&#8217;s Bellefonte nuke will never come up<\/a>,\r\nothers are still being built, including TVA&#8217;s own Watts Bar,\r\nplus 19 more.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/korean-nuke-supplier-for-plant-vogtle-forged-documentation-for-a-host-of-nuclear-reactors.html\">\r\nDocument-forging Doosan-supplied<\/a>\r\nVogtle 2 and 3 in Georgia and Summer 2 and 3 in South Carolina\r\nare\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/reactors\/new-reactors\/col-holder.html\">\r\nthe only four actually already issued combined licences (COL)<\/a>\r\nto build and operate.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/reactors\/new-reactors\/col\/new-reactor-map.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/reactors\/new-reactors\/new-licensing-files\/new-plants.gif\"><\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nBut 15 other\r\nproposed new reactors are\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/reactors\/new-reactors\/col.html\">\r\n&#8220;Under Review&#8221;<\/a>, and all the ones in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are within 500 miles of here:<!--more-->\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>\r\nFlorida:\r\nLevy County 1 and 2,\r\nTurkey Point 6 and 7,\r\n<li>\r\nSouth Carolina:\r\nWilliam States Lee III 1 and 2.\r\n<li>\r\nVirginia:\r\nNorth Anna 3,\r\n<li>\r\nMaryland:\r\nCalvert Cliffs 3 (why is this still marked &#8220;Under Review&#8221;\r\nafter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/david-defeats-goliath-calvert-cliffs-3-nuke-license-denied-first-ever-by-nrc.html\">\r\nNRC denied it a COL<\/a>?),\r\n<li>\r\nPennsylvania:\r\nBell Bend\r\n<li>\r\nOhio:\r\nFermi 3\r\n<li>\r\nTexas:\r\nComanche Peak 3 and 4,\r\nSouth Texas Nuclear Project 3 and 4 (<strong>Update 17 June 2013:<\/strong> why are STNP 3 and 4 still marked as &#8220;Under Review&#8221; when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/nrc-to-change-foreign-ownership-so-nrg-and-toshiba-can-fire-up-south-texas-nuclear-project.html\">NRC denied them a COL in April 2013<\/a>?)\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>\r\nWatts Bar in Tennessee isn&#8217;t in that list, because it&#8217;s listed as\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/info-finder\/reactor\/wb\/watts-bar.html\">\r\na reactivation<\/a>.\r\nTricky NRC!\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nAnd beware of the nine others marked as &#8220;Suspended&#8221;.\r\nThat&#8217;s not the same as cancelled.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nHow about if we cancel them all, and also quit the dead end of natural gas,\r\nand get on with distributed solar and wind power for real renewable\r\nclean energy and jobs?\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Although TVA&#8217;s Bellefonte nuke will never come up, others are still being built, including TVA&#8217;s own Watts Bar, plus 19 more.
