\nSPLOST VII’s $22 million for a new library and parks and rec\ngoes about 2\/3 for the library and 1\/3 for parks and rec,\nand the latter doesn’t all go to parks and rec at Five Points,\naccording to a mysterious red-letter note that has sprung up\non the Lowndes County website.\n<\/p>\n

\nThe front page of\n\nlowndescounty.com<\/a>\nhas sprouted this undated and unsigned\nclarification under the SPLOST VII heading:\n<\/p>\n

\nExhibit A\n\n(Please note that the $22 million proposed by Lowndes County for the\nLibrary and Parks & Recreation, represents a division of\napproximately $14.5 million for the Library and approximately $7.5\nmillion for Parks & Recreation. In addition, the $7.5 million\nproposed for Parks & Recreation is not allocated for parks and\nimprovements at the 5-Points site. Parks & Recreation will use these\nfunds for improvements in other areas of the county.)\n<\/span>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\nCan somebody explain why the new library and Parks and Rec were lumped together\nin the first place?\nAt least the county is sort of trying to explain the difference now.\n<\/p>\n

\nThey didn’t include the pie chart with their clarification.\n<\/p>\n\n<\/a>\n

\nI made the pie chart; took about\n\n\n5 minutes to modify the old one\nand put it on the web.\nSomebody might want to check my arithmetic.\nBy splitting parks and rec from the library as the county has noted,\nI came up with $9.35 million Parks and Rec total\nand $33.845 million total for buildings in SPLOST VII.\n<\/p>\n

\nWhen Lowndes County wants people to know something,\nwhy can’t it put a signed and dated press release with\ncontact information on its website?\nHere’s a\n\npress release How-To<\/a>,\none of many only a google away.\nAnd send that PR to interested news media?\nAnd maybe link that PR into a County Clerk’s blog?\nOr a county facebook page?\nOr twitter?\nOr all of the above?\n<\/p>\n
