The array will have a\ncapacity of 8 megawatts, enough to power 1,000 homes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe canopy is more than just eco window dressing \u2014 Antonio\nCalcado, Rutgers vice president for facilities and capital planning,\nexpects that with the financing structure, grants and energy\ncredits, the investment will return about $28 million to the\nuniversity over the next 20 years. A previous solar project had a\nsimilarly rapid payback.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cCombined with the electricity we produce, it&#39;s a winner all\naround,\u201d says Calcado. \u201cWe&#39;re an institution of higher\nlearning\u2014we teach this stuff\u2014so we should also lead by\nexample.
