\r\nToo ambitious, technology untried, like Katrina and the BP oil spill:\r\nthat’s Southern Company’s Kemper Coal plant, according to a Mississippi\r\nPublic Service Commissioner.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\n“This is the greatest transfer of wealth from customers to a\r\nmonopoly in the history of the state of Mississippi,” [Brandon] Presley\r\nsaid. “Where are all these so-called conservatives on\r\nthat?”\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nMaybe Mississippi, like Georgia,\r\n\r\nneeds some conservation in its “conservatives”<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n

\r\nPresley said he is unchanged in his belief that the plant was too\r\nambitious for the company, and the technology untried. But power\r\ncompany and other state officials have said Mississippi Power needs\r\nto diversify its sources of energy and not be too dependent on\r\nnatural gas.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nYes, that’s what\r\n\r\nSouthern Company CEO Thomas A. Fanning says<\/a>,\r\nbut he and SO and MS Power could just get on with solar power\r\nhere in the southeast sunshine.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nHey, look! Another boondoggle, this one by Duke:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"Edwardsport<\/a>\r\nDuke Energy is building\r\n\r\na similar plant in Indiana<\/a>. That plant, too,\r\nhas seen delays and cost overruns, inflating its price from $1.9\r\nbillion to $3.5 billion, part of which ratepayers will cover with\r\ntheir utility bills.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nPresley laid it out:\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n

\r\n“What’s awful and outrageous is a senior citizen on the Coast\r\nhaving to split a pill in half so they can pay their power\r\nbill,” Presley said. “This is an area already hit by\r\nKatrina and the BP oil spill.”\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n“They want their monopoly status, but don’t want any, any, any\r\nresponsibility to the rate-paying public … If this was such a\r\nwonderful idea, why didn’t they go to Wall Street and get the money\r\ninstead of asking little old ladies and small businesses to put up\r\nthe money?”\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/Blockquote>\r\n

\r\nSo why doesn’t he vote to cancel it?\r\n<\/p>\r\n
