{"id":3758,"date":"2013-06-05T08:00:07","date_gmt":"2013-06-05T12:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?p=3758"},"modified":"2014-09-23T12:35:35","modified_gmt":"2014-09-23T16:35:35","slug":"how-much-will-trash-collection-rates-go-up-in-lowndes-county-lcc-2012-10-09","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/how-much-will-trash-collection-rates-go-up-in-lowndes-county-lcc-2012-10-09.html","title":{"rendered":"How much will trash collection rates go up in Lowndes County? @ LCC 2012-10-09"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\r\n\r\nSpeaking of\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/06\/county-picked-the-highest-bid-from-veolia-for-trash-pickup-lcc-2012-10-09.html\">\r\n Veolia winning its <em>high<\/em> bid for garbage collection<\/a>,\r\nhere&#8217;s a clue to how much more its rates may go up.\r\n\r\n<\/p><a href=\"http:\/\/mspmentor.net\/sales\/msps-10-ways-upsell-your-existing-customers\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" width=\"120\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mspmentor.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/managed-services-upselll.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<p>\r\nRemember\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2012\/12\/veolia-bought-by-advanced-disposal-services-of-alabama-owned-by-highstar-capital-of-new-york-city-lcc-2012-12-10.html\"><strike>ADS<\/strike> Veolia was bought hardly a month later by ADS, owned by Highstar Capital\r\nof New York City<\/a>?\r\nLook at ADS&#8217;s bid for Proposal D: $18.39.\r\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/loco\/waste\/index.php\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border:none;\" width=\"550\" src=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/govt\/loco\/waste\/solid-waste-table.jpg\"><\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThat&#8217;s $220.68 a year.\r\nWhich is even higher than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2011\/08\/lowndes-county-isnt-the-only-one-with-a-trash-problem.html\">\r\nWakulla County, Florida&#8217;s $196 a year<\/a>,\r\nwhich Gretchen warned us all about more than a year ago.\r\nAnd more than double the $100 a year for the former county waste collection sites.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nWant to guess how much ADS&#8217;s monthly rates will rise?\r\nMaybe<!--more--> to what ADS proposed: $18.39 a month or $220.68 a year.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nSo the Lowndes County Commission chose the high bid from Veolia,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/05\/exclusive-franchise-on-photographing-county-commission-lcc-2013-05-28.html\">\r\nin awarding an exclusive franchise (monopoly)<\/a>\r\nto a company now owned by investors from New York City,\r\nwhich parent company bid 40% more than Veolia&#8217;s high bid.\r\nAnd as a monopoly, that company has every incentive to raise\r\nits price to what it originally bid, for the profit of\r\nits New York City investors.\r\nIs that a good reason for the county\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/05\/exclusive-franchise-on-photographing-county-commission-lcc-2013-05-28.html\">\r\nto sue a local competitor out of business<\/a>?\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Speaking of Veolia winning its high bid for garbage collection, here&#8217;s a clue to how much more its rates may go up.
