\r\n\r\n<\/a>\r\nPrivate citizen Steve Parker spoke up as a satisfied customer\r\nof Deep South Sanitation, and a dissatisfied former customer of the\r\nother trash company,\r\nwondering “What’s wrong with competition?” in yesterday’s\r\n\r\nRegular Session of the Lowndes County Commission<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n\"Steve<\/a>\r\nMr. Raines said it beautifully,\r\n\r\nwanting freedom in his prayer<\/a>.\r\nI agree with him, wanting the freedom to make a choice,\r\nso I hired Deep South.\r\nNow I’m told that it’s been the position of the board to dismantle\r\nDeep South, to tell him to cease and desist, and to take away his\r\nbusiness license which he got from the previous board.\r\nI know a lot of you inherited this issue, by the way.\r\nBut at the same time, what is the greater good being served to the county?\r\nWhy are we taking a family owned business and running them out of business\r\nin effect?\r\n

\r\nWhat’s wrong with competition?\r\nI’m in the financial business\r\nand if somebody would give me an exclusive\r\nto every client in Lowndes County that would be a pretty good day for me.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nHe continued to say granting a private company a monopoly makes no sense to him.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nHm, he said he lives in Stone Creek and gets county water.\r\nI wonder if he knows the quality of the water the county provides there?\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nWhat’s the next step?\r\nTell me what plumber to use?\r\nTell me what financial advisor to use?\r\nTell me what service industry to use, whether it’s air conditioning,\r\nheating, or whatever the case may be?\r\nI don’t understand.\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n

\r\nHm, heating and air, like\r\nthe Chairman’s company<\/a>?\r\n(I see\r\n\r\nthe VDT didn’t use that example in their writeup<\/a>.)\r\nI don’t understand, either, and\r\n\r\nthe Chairman refuses to explain<\/a>.\r\n<\/p>\r\n

\r\nIf we took a vote …\r\nof the general population of Lowndes County and said …\r\nyou can vote to have a choice in your garbage collection,\r\nor you can vote that we’re going to make you use a certain company.\r\nWhat would that vote be?\r\n
