It was also a very hot month for renewable energy in the\nU.S. According\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ferc.gov\/legal\/staff-reports\/sep-2012-energy-infrastructure.pdf\">\nto figures<\/a> from the Federal Energy Regulatory\nCommission, wind and solar accounted for all new electricity\ncapacity added to America&#8217;s grid in September.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nNew wind is up 25% Jan-Sep 2012 over the same period last year,\nand new solar is up 78%.\nFor comparison, new coal is\n\n<!--more-->\nup 22%, new natural gas is down 50%,\nand new oil electrical\ngeneration is down 90%.\nLast year solar accounted for only 70% more new megawatts than biomass;\nthis year it was 170%.\nLast year wind and solar combined added twice as many megawatts\nas coal; this year more than that (2.29 times or 129%).\nLast year wind + sun accounted for only 40% as much new generation\nas natural gas; this year 109%.\nSo wind increased faster than any chemical-fuel-burning energy\ngeneration method, and solar increased faster than that.\nThis continues the long-term trend of solar prices going down\nand solar deployment going up.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nEven in Georgia solar deployment is going up.\nBut solar and solar jobs would go up a lot faster without that\n<a href=\"\/blog\/2012\/05\/in-georgia-competitive-is-not-for-you.html\">\n1973 Territorial Electric Service Act<\/a>\ngetting in the way.\nYou can vote right now for two new Georgia Public Service Commissioners\nand for new legislators who could fix that.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Wind and sun provided all the new electric power generation deployed in September 2012.
