Even if you\nattend government meetings no bid information is made public &amp; even\nif bids are referred to the amounts are always in those elusive\n&quot;packets before you&quot; that only the members have access to.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn a recent Hahira City Council meeting the city attorney ruled that\nthe city council did not have to put out the garbage service for\nbids &amp; that it did not even have to have a contract. As of December\n31, 2012 the city collection services will not be under contract at\nall so who knows what the rates may be or if a lower bid would have\nsaved citizens money?\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=1699796301625&amp;set=t.755468291&amp;type=3&amp;theater\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\"  alt=\"Barbara Stratton\"  class=\"at-xid-6a0120a58214e4970b017c3310f5e2970b\" height=\"360\" src=\"\/blog\/images\/6a0120a58214e4970b017c3310f5e2970b-pi.jpg\" width=\"270\" \/><\/a>\nI&#39;ve been involved in government contracting for years &amp; I can tell\nyou that the recent path government bodies have endorsed is leading\nfurther &amp; further away from the bidding procedures that were enacted\nto prevent good old boy politics &amp; kick backs &amp; is opening the door\nwide for public\/private partnerships that never answer to the\ncitizens.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe state attorney general&#39;s office which should regulate bidding\npractices will not interfere with county or municipal issues unless\na citizen is willing to pay $500 to a lawyer to present the case to\nthem. They justify this as catering to &quot;home rule&quot; but in actuality\nthey are turning a blind eye because it is within their jurisdiction\nto rule on non-adherence to proper bidding practices.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIf the state believes in &quot;home rule&quot; why is Governor Deal pushing a\nstate charter school board amendment that will take away local rule?\nThe state seems to pick &amp; choose its standards.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n-Barbara Stratton\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\n-jsq\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Received today on County trash plan already failing. -jsq Yet another example of government contracting not following the fair bidding practices or allowing community public input.
