{"id":3397,"date":"2013-05-14T07:35:19","date_gmt":"2013-05-14T11:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/?p=3397"},"modified":"2013-05-14T07:55:23","modified_gmt":"2013-05-14T11:55:23","slug":"lakeland-environmental-violations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.l-a-k-e.org\/blog\/2013\/05\/lakeland-environmental-violations.html","title":{"rendered":"Lakeland environmental violations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\r\nDemolition debris buried without a permit?\r\nThat happened in Lakeland, and it&#8217;s causing a heap of trouble\r\nfor the City Council.\r\nCould such a thing also have happened in a nearby county?\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/news\/headlines\/Local-City-Under-Investigation-for-Dozens-of-Environmental-Violations-206476661.html\">\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right;border:none;\" src=\"http:\/\/media.graytvinc.com\/images\/300*168\/LakelandGa.jpg\"><\/a>\r\nAndy Alcock reported yesterday for WCTV,\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/news\/headlines\/Local-City-Under-Investigation-for-Dozens-of-Environmental-Violations-206476661.html\">\r\nLakeland Hires Firm to Check Environmental Issues<\/a>\r\n<\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nThere&#8217;s a new push to find out about dozens of potential\r\nenvironmental violations in the South Georgia city of Lakeland.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nAs we first reported last week, Georgia&#8217;s Environmental Protection\r\nDivision issued a notice of violation for the city of Lakeland.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThat notice lists twenty-three properties where demolition debris\r\nmay be buried without a permit.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThe city council has now unanimously approved the hiring of an\r\nengineering firm to assess those sites.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nStevenson &#038; Palmer Engineering will be paid an hourly rate plus\r\nexpenses not to exceed $15,000 without approval by the city.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\nThere are claims of improperly demolishing, burning and burying\r\ndozens of homes.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nAccording to whom?\r\n<\/P><!--more-->\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nAdditionally that violation letter says burning and burying of the\r\ndemolition debris violates Georgia law.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p>\r\nHm, I wonder if burying construction debris violates Georgia law.\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p>\r\n -jsq\r\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Demolition debris buried without a permit?
