\nLakeland Hires Firm to Check Environmental Issues<\/a>\n<\/p>\n
\n\nThere’s a new push to find out about dozens of potential
\nenvironmental violations in the South Georgia city of Lakeland.\n<\/p>\n\nAs we first reported last week, Georgia’s Environmental Protection
\nDivision issued a notice of violation for the city of Lakeland.\n<\/p>\n\nThat notice lists twenty-three properties where demolition debris
\nmay be buried without a permit.\n<\/p>\n\nThe city council has now unanimously approved the hiring of an
\nengineering firm to assess those sites.\n<\/p>\n\nStevenson & Palmer Engineering will be paid an hourly rate plus
\nexpenses not to exceed $15,000 without approval by the city.\n<\/p>\n\nThere are claims of improperly demolishing, burning and burying
\ndozens of homes.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\nAccording to whom?
\n<\/P><\/p>\n\n\nAdditionally that violation letter says burning and burying of the
\ndemolition debris violates Georgia law.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\nHm, I wonder if burying construction debris violates Georgia law.\n<\/p>\n
